I've been researching CPO'd, 08' 550s and have found myself questioning a few things:

1. Is the sport package and M sport package different? I can't seem to find any significant differences externally.

2. Color. It seems some dealerships call the color Carbon Black Metallic and other may call the same, or a very similar color, Monaco Blue Metallic. Are these colors so similar that it is difficult to tell the difference. Obviously, the real color should be marked in the engine bay, but nobody ever takes that picture. I'm interested in a Monaco Blue Metallic on Creame Beige interior with Light wood trim. This has proven extremely hard to find, in part because of my confusion on color schemes.

3. Looking at some of the CARFAX, I've found more than one with the following:

"Body electrical wiring repaired
Exterior light bulbs replaced
Battery/charging system/starter checked
Battery/charging system checked"

Is that something to worry about? Has anyone had electrical wiring repaired or experienced a significant electrical problem that would cause all the bulbs to fail?

Thanks for you time,

JJ

1. For 2008+, on the 550i, it's just called "sport package." It just so happens that for 08+, it comes with aero package, sport suspension, sport seats, etc.

2. Carbon Black Metallic is certainly different from Monaco Blue Metallic. CBM is darker than MBM, and has tones of purple/blue from different angles and lighting condition.

3. Call the dealership that serviced the vehicle and ask if they can provide you more details of the issue. If the vehicle is still under warranty, or CPO, you may not have anything to worry about.

How about for 2007 550i? How do I know if I have the sports package or the M-Tech upgrade?

i have a BMW 550I 2008..AND YES BATTERY ISSUES!If you only drive the car on weekends the battery will discharge and shutdown some systems...then the dealer will tell you that it is your fault and that it is not taken under warranty (I had to call BMWNA to get the battery changed under warranty)

I don't know about 550i before 2008 but for 2008/2009, the stock configuration only has sports package whereas the 2010 has the m-sport package. The main differences are in the interior; the sports package steering wheel is different from the m steering wheel in the m-sport package. The shifter is different as well. Here is the info:

Also Carbon Black is really Black with a subtle blue shade whereas Monaco Blue is blue that's so dark that looks like black at night. Hope that helps. =)

i disagree there...my 550i 2008 is carbon black and it looks more dark blue than black to me during day time while looking black during evening or night.

in fact it depents the lighting...and your eyes....I decided for carbon black because i thought it was black , while my wife agreed on carbon black because she thought it was dark blue
