Anyone notice that active steering is no longer included with the sport package? You have to pay extra for it now....

The sport package is cheaper to account for the loss of AS.

In the US 17" was always standard on the 545, the sport package gives you the 18" rims.

Site quoted,

"Even at rest, the 2006 550i appears to be passing everything by. And the instant you step on the throttle, the 4.8-liter, 360-hp V-8 engine with Valvetronic makes this illusion a thrilling reality. The 550i delivers unsurpassed performance and agility, all while catering to each occupant with luxurious comforts. Equipped with innovations like a Start/Stop button, enhanced DSC featuring Brake Drying, Hill Start Assist, and Soft Stop, and a richly detailed cabin, the 550i is everything a demanding driver could want, and more."

I like the ......"unsurpassed performance and agility"..... line.? Also, ..."everything a demanding driver could want, and more."? ? ? ? OMG

Yes, thats a little A4 with a tiny ole 225hp V6. I'm keeping it but adding either a 545i or an ED 550. Hoping to pull the trigger soon.

I configured one just like my 545i and MSRP was $67,045 vs. $65,270 for my '05 545i, so $1,775 (3%) increase ('06 has sat radio, mine sat prep).? Pretty reasonable increase considering new engine and normal model year increases.

Remember also that current US fiscal policy continues to devalue the US dollar on world markets. Looking at the numbers it almost looks like BMW is *swallowing* some of the loss there to keep the prices in check.

I have a saved 05 545 build configuration on BMWUSA and it's base price is $56,495 including destination. The 06 550 base price is $58,095 including destination. That's only a $1600 difference. Not bad for more power and the other usual model year upgrades.

BMWUSA site shows HD for 7 series now, and on the 6er starting in October. No mention of HD on the 5 series Options.
