I wonder if my lying dealer looks at the BMW website ever.? (I knew the 550i was coming out in September/October, but asked him anyway - he said 18 months.? I said 'are you sure? I thought it was September', and he said 'no way, it's at least a year' - punk)? That company lost a sale.

I don't know why dealerships do that, except that maybe it works some of the time. I'd never do business with a dealership that tried that on me, either.

My Ride: '05 545i, silver gray, black leather with anthracite maple wood, sport package, premium sound, navigation, cold weather package, electric rear sunshade, folding rear seat, satellite radio prep, PIAA 4150K fogs, red rear reflectors, hardwired Valentine One

The site also has the '06 brochure (I tried uploading here, but it failed--2MB .pdf file).

Remember the debate about how much quicker the 550i would be compared to the 545i (some thought it wold be much quicker)? Here's the comparison, based on BMW numbers:

0 - 60 MPH
man/SMG step
545i 5.7 5.8
550i 5.4 5.5

Not something that would cause me to get a 550i, since I don't think my butt would feel a 0.3 sec. difference.

..."everything a demanding driver could want, and more."

I can't wait for the "and more" part.

It's great that BMW NA got this out there now ... I recall that the new 750i info was not available on their website until about the time the first cars were hitting the dealer lots.

Hey, each .1 second costs $1000 and it increases exponentially. Think about those cars cost $600K

Again, what another ripped of BMW?

when I build, one the starting MSRP is $58k.... I thought the 545i started at $55k?

also, I think they forgot to unlock something....? this page asks for a login/password:

[quote name='alohalc' date='Aug 26 2005, 04:49 AM']it's almost $1,000 over the 545 and $9,000 over the 530 .

I configured one just like my 545i and MSRP was $67,045 vs. $65,270 for my '05 545i, so $1,775 (3%) increase ('06 has sat radio, mine sat prep). Pretty reasonable increase considering new engine and normal model year increases.

Any figures on the upper speeds? In Houston, you can easily hit 120 mph on any of the freeways (beltway, 59 i-45 outside the beltway) to name a few. Not that many cops either.

Has anyone test driven one and compared it to the 545i?? I wonder just how much difference there is...

Not sure what it counts for, but the people I've spoken to who have experience in the 745 and 750 said they do not notice that much of a difference.

Saw the 550 site. My 545 has 11k miles; ain't worth the 15 grand (at least) hit for a slightly better 0-60 time that you'll never use anyway.

well the 750i weighs 700 pounds more...... so that would be expected..... the extra HP will make a bigger difference on the 5.....
