"Even at rest, the 2006 550i appears to be passing everything by. And the instant you step on the throttle, the 4.8-liter, 360-hp V-8 engine with Valvetronic makes this illusion a thrilling reality. The 550i delivers unsurpassed performance and agility, all while catering to each occupant with luxurious comforts. Equipped with innovations like a Start/Stop button, enhanced DSC featuring Brake Drying, Hill Start Assist, and Soft Stop, and a richly detailed cabin, the 550i is everything a demanding driver could want, and more."

I like the ......"unsurpassed performance and agility"..... line. Also, ..."everything a demanding driver could want, and more." OMG

Do you have a link? 550i is on the Great Britian site. It shows the 550i (0-62mph) doing about 5.5 seconds. I think that the extra .4 liters is significant at 100-130 mph range. I'm going to guess that it will be 2-4 seconds faster than the 545i in the 100-130 range and about 1 full seconds faster on the 1/4 mile. This guess is based on a the 745i and 750i calculates.

2006 BMW 550i

In the spec pages, it shows "Tire Pressure Monitor" ... hmm, I hope it's where it'll show you realtime pressures at all 4's, unless it just warns you only if a flat occurs.

I wonder if my lying dealer looks at the BMW website ever. (I knew the 550i was coming out in September/October, but asked him anyway - he said 18 months. I said 'are you sure? I thought it was September', and he said 'no way, it's at least a year' - punk) That company lost a sale.

Has anyone test driven one and compared it to the 545i? I wonder just how much difference there is...

No, they have even moved away from that system to just the one that warns of a flat on the 7 Series

Problem is the one that shpws the actual pressure needs a sensor in the wheel.
This sensor often gets damaged by tire fitters and guys fitting different wheels have a problem since the sensors dont fit all types of wheels

Maybe there are some features standard that were not before? Can't imagine the new engine alone would be $3k more, particularly since they already developed and tested the engine for years in the X5
