[/quote]I do too. I hope no one takes this personally but i think that is a //M characteristic. I drove an E39 M5 within 20 minutes of my first 6spd 545i test. I had the same reaction. I would happily give up the extra surge with that growl for the smooth silky rush of the 545i
But now if I had a stable and it was an occasional driver.......

My Ride: 02 E46 M3
A M3 6-speed manual will beat a SMG due to the fact that you can get a better launch. A M3 SMG or Manual will be able to beat a 545 too, no offense the 545 is a beautiful car but you cannot compare that to a M3.

No offense, but i could sell my 545i and get a brand new 05 M3 and be on the other side of the fence. 
The M3 is for "purists".
The 545i and M5 are for us mature guys. Which is why i'll get an M3 when i'm retired and will race young whippersnappers.

You raced on an SMG 545 and did not use launch control??? What kind of race is that??? May be the M3 started in second gear to boot??? By the sounds of this, the 545 could have shaved .5 seconds just by using launch control and the M3 drivers, well.... they are not great ones at that...

BTW, attaching link to my race vs supercharged brabus with 800 torgue and 550HP, M3 was able to 100kmh amost as fast as brabus but over 100kmh torgue is kicking in.
IMHO, 545 will not able to beat any M3, SMG one is 0.3s slower to 100 then manual, its compared and proved.
