Five Fifty my friend!! Having a less problematic German car is a needle in a haystack. I went from bmw to audi, now back to bmw. Something about the these cars that makes me forget that they arent reliable.

I've got a 535 and honestly love it. There is the HPFP issue which is covered, as was already said, by a 10 year warranty. I've done some work to my car and, after doing so, I can honestly say it will entirely depend on what aspect of a car gives you the most enjoyment. If it's speed and acceleration, get the 535, spend $1000 for an intake and tune, and you'll roast the doors off of a 550. If you enjoy the rumble and sound of the 550, then go that direction. The downside of the 550 is gas mileage. The downside of the 535 is the HPFP. I don't consider a turbo any more or less of something that can "break" moreso then anything else. They both are great cars though so nail down what you really enjoy and you'll be happy either way!

I'm absolutely in love with mine. Contrary to how it sounds, not all x35 cars need their fuel pumps replaced. I put 40K miles on my 335i with no problems, but I did need to recently replace the fuel pump on my 535i (and both were tuned after only 1k miles). No big deal...took it in, got a nice loaner for a day, and was back in my car the next day. Gotta love the 10yr warranty.

Go 535 for (relatively) cheap speed, 545 for the love of a V8. Can't go wrong either way.

I had 335i, like almost everyone had to change fuel pump. I am driving 545 for few months, no problem. Best bet look at a 535 still under warranty.

Being a previous e92 335i owner myself, I've had my fair share of headaches with the HPFP issue. There is nothing that BMW could do to persuade me to buy another vehicle that is equipped with N54/N55 series motor until they resolve the HPFP problems. Stay with 550i. You can't go wrong with BMW V8.
