I drove to the Philly airport in Friday morning at 4 am. It was snowing quite hard and I-95 was totally covered with snow (no plough in sight for 40 miles.....).

My car drove beautifully in the fresh snow. I always felt very save (except when I passed the cars going 25 mph in the center lane). I tried some breaking (no cars around) the the grip was exceptional. The winter tires were well worth the money.

Just though I share something positive.

Yep.....having driven only SUV's in my life and now having my first RWD car....this car handles exceptionally well. In fact, my 545 with wonter tires grip better than my friend's touareg with all-seasons.....
great car

Drjochen....do you have 18" snow tires as well???

I put 17" with 225/50/17 Michelin runflats on. The ride is sooo much smoother than with the original tires.

Obviously, none of you has the sport package with summer tires.

I just drove my 545i SMG with summer runflats in Wash. DC after the recent snow.

My ass was all over the place.

It's all about tires. RWD vs. FWD or AWD doesn't make an ass worth of difference without the right tires.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. I refuse to change to a smaller rims cause I don't want my car to look ugly. Heck I think I'm ugly enough
well.....18's with dunlop winter tires are more than enough to hold their traction.....and yes.....tires make a huge difference...

That was me yesterday morning. I have not put on the snow tires yet (back-ordered), so I had to try to get around on the stock sport Bridgestone RFs. Not good. It must have been the exact right temperature, humidity, and snow type mix ... because this rubber couldn't get a grip.

However, I was out in the snow night before, and again tonight, and it grips just fine.

Either way (snow or dry) these Bridgestones ride like Fred Flintsones when it's very cold (under 20 degrees F). No thanks. I can't wait to put on the Dunlop snows in a few days.

I have the sports package with the 275 tires in the back, but I would never go in the snow with them ever.
I simply like my car too much to try this!
And I fully agrere with the statement that the tires make all the difference, but the 17" are NOT ugly.......
