545i occasional refusal to start/turn over
Hello everybody,
I seem to have had a good deal of electronic issues with this 2005 545. I have fixed the battery draining issue that was causing some faulty malfunction warnings (such as increased emissions, dynamic stability control, transmission malfunctions) by replacing batteries, the alternator and voltage regulator.
Now I am having an issue where every so often the car won't crank. The dash lights and radio & other electronics seem engaged but i turn the key and get a click up front or nothing at all. I replaced a battery cable and a relay on the fuse panel in the trunk from reading some other threads with this issue, but it still happens.
I can unhook the battery to reset the computer and it seems to help a lot for a while, but now every 20 or so times I get back in the car to start it up, it refuses for between 5-20 minutes. Then she starts again. But it is a little unnerving not knowing if the car will start up on demand at any given time and i'd like to get to the bottom of it.
Did i give anyone any ideas? Would appreciate any thoughts!

I just placed an order for the IVM module, I did some reading and it seems like this cleared these issues up. Amazon reviews also describe what's going on including a transmission malfunction i've experienced

What Transmission Malfunction error were you getting? I'm getting one saying it can't communicate with the EGS(Trans Controller) and wont even attempt to start. No click or engagement of any kind. I replaced the battery and it fired right up and drove home perfectly. Next morning it threw the same codeless Transmission Malfunction and won't start. Glad I was able to get it home. I replaced the IVM about 2 months ago thinking it would help with some performance issues. Now I'm not even sure the replacement was actually new considering I bought it off of Ebay. The old unit looked good inside so I might reinstall it and see if it remedies the issue.
