I felt a remarkable performance improvement and increased smoothness after my first oil change at 6K miles. I chalked it up to a software upgrade. I felt the same again at 12Kmiles. This time I had new tires and another SW upgrade. Well now I am at 19K miles and I cannot wait for the oil change scheduled in a couple of weeks. When I mentioned this marked improvement post oil changes to my SA, he noted that several 545 owners expressed the same thing. I dont think it has anything to do with SW. This engine needs new blood ever 6000 miles, no ifs and no buts. I don't care what the BMW recommended service interval is. This V8 needs it sooner.

My experience is quite opposite. After the first service (oil change and software upgrade) my 2005 545 auto feels somewhat slower. The tranny lost the sport submode in D and sport mode in DS and overall the car feels kind of detuned. BTW my car was, is and hopefully will be extremle smooth.

It depends on what type of loaner car you had or what car you drove before you received your V8 back from the dealer. This a "feeling" thing is is relative.

Mine shifted faster after the update to 19.01. Oil at 6K miles won't make it go faster.

Timely note Hormazd, my 545 is going in for its first oil change this morning - I'll try and post back with any updates.

It is an well known fact, that a BMW engine will give its best after some 30 - 40,000 miles.

A other psycological fact is, that one always feels the car better after maintance

Well my issues are not related to the tranny as I have a 6spd. Confirmed today that most probably my 13mpg driving style and route (can't be helped) breaks down the oil faster. My Mechanic is convinced that fresh oil will always make a big difference and that it is not SW related.

If you oil is broken down, then new oil will make a difference--on engine longeviety. But I'll eat my shorts if your car can be shown, via timer, to accelerate significantly faster after an oil change. I question whether your oil was even broken down after 6K miles or whatever mileage you mentioned above. Maybe your mechanic has stock in "the" oil company.
