The latest episode of Top Gear had the new M3, C63, and RS4 on a track where the C63 trailed 5 seconds behind the M3. Looks to me that AMG still isn't quite there yet in terms of handling.

Regarding the sub 5 seconds on the 545i by Znod and Andy545, I think that after CIP 2x.xx, BMW programmed DTE to run much richer (fuel mixture) than previous CIP. Znod did mention that after his CIP update, he was not able to obtain sub 5 seconds and did felt that the car was more sluggish. He couldn't figure out why, and the dealer didn't know it either. It was irreversible.

IIRC, Znod got his car to "relearn" his driving style and was able to get it below 5 secs again but it took him about two months.

Yep I saw that, but I will wait until we see a more detailed test. Not one done with hand held stop watches. They didn't say what settings the cars were in, or if the C63 had the sport package that includes a LSD. With all that said, I don't think it will lap faster than the M3, I just think its closer than Top Gear had it.

I'm not so sure about that. The C63 is heavier than my 550. Adding more power is not a recipe for good track times.

+1, in fact the the latest issue of Top Gear magazine did a comparison between the two and placed the C63 ahead over the M3 (they did two tests in the latest issue, the other one gave the nod to the Cayman S over the M3). The thinking seems to have been that the M3 has gone up a class and where the E46 used to dominate the new one is up against models from other manufacturers who have also raised their game. Still a great car.
