There were a couple of members here (Grogan545 and Znod) that managed to get their 545 down to 4.9s 0-60 but it took a lot of practice and learning how to launch the car. They managed sub 5s runs with a Steptronic too!

None. I test drove them all and none compare. I think the stats are just to sell magazines.

Here is some good info. on the A6 4.2 : http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Drive...rticleId=116521

Bottom line is that it it's too damn fat and the 4.2 V8 just isn't big enough to make it compete.

Before getting the 5, I was thinking to buy the A6 4.2 because a friend of my family owns a dealership .
Fortunately I saw the 5 when I brought my Mini to the first service and I fell in love with it

E,
E550 (382 hp) will blow the 545i out of the waters, at least in a straight line. The 550i will have a hard time beating it as well. The E500 is a different story.

According to MB the E550 does 0-60 in 5.4 sec. How is that blowing the doors off of a 545i?

2008 E550 0-60

Go ahead and line up against one at a stop light or from a rolling start. Report back here after you realize how fast the E550 is. It doesn't matter if you have a 535xi or 545i. They're comparable in terms of power except you will have a better launch due to the AWD.

I should note that the 5.2s time for the 545 above from R&T is the best official time I've ever seen recorded for that car. BMW rates it at 5.6 for the manual and 5.8 for the Step if I recall correctly.

So yeah, depending on the driver, I can see an E550 running away from a 545 pretty easily.

Hi all

545's really haul.

My business partner has ordered a Audi S5 (4.2 V8) and he had borrowed the dealer's demo, on the way home it was a bit late and he followed me on the the motorway (freeway) and he obviously expected to blow right by. Actually no.

Yeehaaaa in manual mode the 2004 545 not only stood its ground but I maintain got away on him a bit! We were all smiles as he was new to the Audi - but I could tell he was a bit surprised! The '45 is quick enough - yep it can be beaten - but the other guy really has to on to it...

Needless to say the office hasn't been the same since :-)

Cheers
stu
