Default 545i clutch DIY

Ok my '04 545i throw-out bearing failed. I'm looking to replace it (and clutch disk, pressure plate while I'm in there).

I've done several clutches over the years on the several FWD vw's I've owned. Albeit a transmission is a transmission, it has input/output shafts, bolts, etc haha. Any special tools I should have on hand before I start? I assume the clutch alignment tool.

This will be my first time really digging into my e60. I also plan to do the CDV as well. Waiting on my Bentley and hopefully some tips

I think Bavauto or similar site has a clutch R&R video.

Yeah I saw that, it was pretty helpful.

I think I'm just over thinking the task and making it more complicated on myself before I even get started haha. Can't be that bad, once all of the panels and exhaust is out of the way.

I single mass flywheel would be nice as well. Cannot seem to find one other than the uuc brand.

I didn't realize that the dual-mass flywheel was so complicated and can "fail" until recently when someone posted about grease present in the bell housing when they changed their starter. Whatever way you go, I think you need to change the flywheel. Either a new dual-mass one or a single mass one.

I've got a manual transmission xi and I'm not looking forward to when the clutch needs to be changed.

Yea I definitely prefer the "feel" of a single mass to the dual mass. Much more responsive and involving to drive (same reasons for the CDV upgrade). And the ability to have them resurfaced is nice as apposed to outright replacement when a spring or other components fail.

Once I get the housing off I'm going to check the condition of the flywheel, and if it's intact I'll likely sand the surface a bit and leave it in. I do understand it's role and importance but for now I'll put it off. Everything seems to be working and operating as it should. Just noisy applying and releasing the clutch.

The CDV is easily "fixed".
You use a very slender punch in the male end and drive the imbedded seat out of female end. You will get the seat and the part that looks like a table with legs with a small hole in the table top. The piece floats inside the CDV and allows full flow with the table moves onto its legs and restricts the other way when the table moves where the hole is where fluid must pass.
Get rid of the floating piece and then drive the seat back into the female end.
