Almost prefer you lie to me. I don’t have INPA. Got a Foxwel NT510.
code: 2855 / not present, DME: Variable Valve Gear - plausibility, sensor, bank 2
Bank 2 is the drivers side. What would be the logical sensor that would be that is involved in this? Whether it is doing its job, or it is bad and it is the cause of this code?
Also, if you were to point to a module, would it be the VVT or the DME?
It could be either module that's when INPA comes into play. But since you are getting DME codes I would assume if it were a bad module it would be the VVT.
I would next clean and swap you Vanos selenoids from bank 2 to bank 1 to see if the code moves.
Also check your eccentric shaft sensor for oil in the plug. If so that will need to be replaced along with gasket
I'm trying to think of everything you can do before saying it's inside the engine. You may need to take it to the indy shop for diagnosis since you don't have INPA but check what I said first.
At lunch I took a look at the connector for the essentric shaft sensor and I noticed the base of it had some oil on it. I didn’t unplug it as I’m at work.
The Vanos solenoids would require removal of the air pump and some hard lines going from the power steering tank across the front of the engine. I havent touched these items before and I’m not sure how to deal with pulling that system apart.
If the ess-sensor connector pins are full of oil, then it’s reasonable to assume the entire sensor is oil-soaked.
Anyway, I have to decide if I should attempt passing emmisions tomorrow for my sticker. I have the 2855 code and the e box code, but no check engine light. The problem is I have to gingerly warm the car up about 40 minutes to avoid getting an engine fault. The last time I cleared codes was last Saturday. Hope I’ve got enough “good” miles to pass the inspection.
I got my inspection sticker! Mass tests emissions every other year, not this year, so I’m relieved I don’t have to deal with a rejection sticker, which is a big load off.
If I decide to replace the eccentric shaft sensor on bank 2 of my n62, what would the level of difficulty would it be on a scale of 1 to 10?
I’ve never been inside an engine before but I’ve done water pumps and spark plugs and O2 sensors with the help of decent DYI’s
thx.
This weekend I removed the connector of the eccentric shaft sensor for bank 2 and to my dismay, it was NOT oil soaked. I’m going to take it to a BMW Indy next week.
I really appreciate all of the good ideas of things to try!
I will report back their findings and the results. Provided I can still afford my phone🤪.
Brought this to an indy BMW shop, and they diagnosed my cold start rough idle problem to be, yes, the eccentric shaft sensor on bank 2 (driver side). The price to replace this sensor was $1067.00. The car feels back to normal now.
Just a few more parts and I’ll have a brand new car!
