FWIW, since June of 2018, I’ve done the spark plugs, coils, coolant valley pipe stent, water pump, alternator as well as the aforementioned MAF CCV cleaned throttle body and most recently all O2 sensors and thermostat.
who says an 04 doesn’t have car payments?

I'll break it down. Change your e-box fan because it's not cooling the modules. When you take the modules out check the module pins to make sure they are not corroded. If a module is corroded or burned then that's your issue and buy a used one with the same part number off eBay or a junk yard. Mostly it will be one of the silver modules and not the one with the fuses. Your e-box fan sits under the passenger side a cabin filter in a box that's covered with a black top. Afterwards if that came up with nothing then you proceed to see if you have vacuum leaks.

I hope you went OEM on the coils because if you didn't it will cause you problems also

Thanks for your suggestions, I will get into the e box this weekend.
when I buy parts, Instead of the BMW version, I’ll buy the next expensive version that’s made by the same supplier, like Bosch Etc.

I really appreciate your replies!
thx

If you go on pelican parts you will be able to see who the Manufacturer is of the part your looking for. You will be able to tell by seeing the BMW part number then bouncing that to the other parts. The numbers will match and will have usually 3 letters added to it.

Hi Guys. I have occasionally had similar unusual messages like some you have mentioned in the discussions above but ignored it as it cleared when i switched off and restarted. In the UK I have recently had a manufacturer recall (the car is 2004!) and the dealer said there was corrosion where the battery cable connects the body etc and replaced the battery cable and i think IBS sensor all free of charge which i was very impressed with! Fingers crossed i hope i don't get those messages again.

I opened up the e box to check out the fan and VVT Module.

I found no evidence of water intrusion. The VVT and connecter pins looked brand new. Along with the 2855 code, I’ve been getting e box fan codes. I removed the fan and put 12V to it and it ran! I wasn’t expecting that.
On a cold start, to avoid the Engine Failure, Limp mode, I have to let it warm up completely, like 10 minutes. Then drive gingerly for a bit before it starts to behave normally where I can accelerate w/o the engine failure.

Wondering if there is anything I might try before surrendering it to an Indy shop?

To be honest with you you probably have a gear issue. Maybe your guides. There are too many parts involved to step it out and you need to have it on the machine to know what's going on. If you had INPA you could isolate it.
