On my early 05 545i I hated the step for several reasons, i think the way you have to shift is backwards and just odd, also the car always would shift on its own even in MAnual, if i was in 3rd and i got on it hard around 5k it would shift to 4th it sucked so bad.

IMO---Dramatically. I'm an old school 6 Spd Manual kind a guy. My buddy told me I just had to drive the new Step in the car. I was like...."WTF for" and he was like.."Trust Me".....So I gave it a go...and DAMN SAM.....totally different car now in Manual Mode....Hard to distinquish the difference between shifting with true manual and M-Mode in the Step.

Any of you guys wish you waited for this new sport auto with paddles or a 6 speed manual?

I don't know about the 6Spd Manual in the 08---Nobody in So Cal can find them. They are out there but I didn't want to wait for another 6 weeks and the Step was more than enough to make me happy.

Whats the deal with the sport automatic that is now being offered? Is this just paddles or is the gearbox that much better.

Lastly at the NYC Auto show they had a car with a silver funky shifter, is this the way the Steptronics come now or was the car i saw a Sport Automatic?
