Apologize in advance if this is a REPOST.

According to a couple of Dealers in Miami, Diesels are coming late this year. I had read the 7D was coming, but its clearly all models.

So what is the draw tro diesel? I just checked out the price last time at the pump and it was barely cheaper than regular gas-cheaper than premium forsure but not that much cheaper.

Also I think its cool how you can tune up the diesels since they are turbo's but if you have a gas turbo car-isnt that equally desirable and seems like BMW is sticking their turbos in most of their lines so what would teh draw to diesel be? Cleaner burning maybe but I hear it is louder as well

Mileage per gallon is significantly better. The torque of the diesels is spectacular and they are very quiet, not nearly as noisey as the engines you hear in U.S. pick-up trucks. The 535D is nearly as fast as the 545. Search the board to see some comparisons.

Torque, torque, torque. The huge low-down pull of a diesel (esp the 535d) is something magnificent.A turbo petrol engine is fine but the diesel has even more power where you REALLY need it in real world driving. Most don't sound as much like lawnmowers either now.
Mileage over long distances is significantly better too.

I'm ready for a 535d w/6-speed manual. I expect to drive in 2nd or 3rd all the time in Boston traffic, while getting 40mpg!

Don't hold your breath for a MT on the 535d -- they're all Steptronics in Europe, even the 335d.

My bet goes for the 530d/330d/X5 3.0d on the first round anyway. It's not going to be easy to convince Americans that diesels are performance cars, and the likely customers at first will be more sedate drivers.

Thanks! New information. Looks like the BMW diesel will have to use the urea injection. With that system, the question seems to be as to what happens when the urea tank runs dry...1) engine stops, 2) engine runs under reduced power, or 3) no change (except increased emissions)?

Well, my dad in Germany "only" has a 525d and I look forward to driving his car everytime I visit.
That thing pulls from low rpms like a semi, sounds a bit rougher than my 530i, but gets ~ 1.5 times the mileage if I drive it carefully.

I got over 1100 km on one tank going to Switzerland last year with 3 people and luggage.

Now, I have never tried the 535i with the twin turbos. I might get converted again.

Maybe I am also influenced by my research, which is im Diesel exhaust catalysis.
