Hello!

I purchased it almost a week ago(last Thursday). Still breaking her in (somewhat). The car is absolutely a rocket. I have a good feeling once people start dynoing them and the mags start testing, we'll find out it's more than 360HP. I have a step and manual mode is amazing now. DS mode is good but you don't feel the crazy low end torque like the Manual mode.

I'm having the rims done Friday and tint today. Does anybody know of chip/ECU mods for this car yet? Hard to find with internet searches. Here she is:
One last question I'm keeping the M-Rims but darkening them. Do you think Black is the color or should I keep the color closer to charcoal gray/gun metal? She is a Space Gray with Black Dakota leather interior.

Thanks for your help peeps.

Hi Znod! Happy to meet up in So Cal once broken in.

Sweet looking ride, SoCal.

Why don't you bring your new toy to the Malibu Canyon Meet we are going to have? It looks like the meet will be either June 30th or July 14th. Click on the link under my sig for more info.

My '05 545 has all the power I could ever want and as far as passing and overtaking on the highway it simply is not an issue as this car is a beast. Does the '08 550 beat it by a few tenths 0-60...maybe but so what? IMO there is certainly the law of diminishing returns when it comes to this whole silly horsepower race between the Japanese & German auto makers. Also, if you are not tracking one of these on a regular basis you will very rarely, if ever, in a daily driving scenario get to experience the vehicles' true potential.
OK, here is one 08 test result, albeit a questionable one. I looked on the BMW Germany site and could find no tests for the 08 550i. They seem to appear there earlier than elsewhere. I guess it is wait and see.

Consumer Reports testing is embarrassing on all counts. A true BMW hater wrote that review. 5.5 seconds my ass--must have had a 90 year old tester. ;-) And if you aren't shifting in the step in Manual Mode...you are truly missing out...

Dollars to donuts Road and Track gets sub 5 seconds---the 07 was 5.2 in November. Step in Manual mode.

Guys....still waiting on some input.....19' M Rims----Gun Metal(Charcoal Gray)or Black?

Help a Bro Out!

Do not go black on the wheels. IMO, black wheels does not look good on a gray e60. I reiterate, just my opinion. If you really want to change the color go gun metal. If you want to see what black wheels look like on a gray e60 check out poleposition and DIRRRTY's rides.

Thanks Vegastrashed! I tend to agree. Where do I find those pictures?

Appreciate it!

All this talk of the LCI step being faster than a non-LCI step. I never heard of any modifications to the engine or driveline although BMW often changes little details without notice. Perhaps a person used to driving an 06-07 550 sport with old software would think the LCI with new software is noticably faster. But eventually all the non-LCI 550s will have that same software. Mine does and it makes a big difference in the percieved power of the car.

I'd be surprised (happily) if the LCI car is any faster at all than a non-LCI 550 sport (aside from any incremental differences in traction resulting from non-runflat tires [more launch traction] and a stiffer suspension [less launch traction]. Once the sport automatic is intoduced, then the 550 sport will become noticably faster.

my 2 cents

I'll help get you up to speed, pun intended. LCI = Life Cycle Impulse. BMW's terminology for the facelift.
