Faster by a lot? Not!!! Some say they feel a difference. I'll race em. Bet grogan545 will too. Check it out bro in post #1 here: Fast 545i's. Also, check this thread out as well as the link given in its post #1. Finally, check out post #46 here. No one has yet shown acceleration results better than grogan's or mine in a 550i.
The 545i can indeed hold it's own, but in everyday driving scenarios such as passing and overtaking on the freeway, the 550 trumps the 545i.

R u talking about the 07 550i or the 08 550i? The 08 which I own is "NOTICEABLY" faster than the 07---BMW has tremendously stepped up their game with their improvements to the tranny including shorter shifts(Double Vanos technology controlling the camshafts for increased low end torque that is consistent thru the power band. The new suspension also enhances the overall feel and definitely the aesthetics.

So Cal
When did you buy your 2008 550i Beast-ette?

I didn't think the '08s were out yet, but I'm surprised to see a lot of talk on the board about '08.

Well, don't burn yourself out of e60.net again. Take it SLOW, but I don't think you're the type to take anything slow.
I'll try. Thanks. CU on board or in Phoenix or San Jose.

You may be right, but I say show us you are. And, there are guys in your area that like to get together for "meets and greats" in wide-open spaces.

Well, yes, I guess. But, see my passing-time stats in the threads I linked above.

Hello!

I purchased it almost a week ago(last Thursday). Still breaking her in (somewhat). The car is absolutely a rocket. I have a good feeling once people start dynoing them and the mags start testing, we'll find out it's more than 360HP. I have a step and manual mode is amazing now. DS mode is good but you don't feel the crazy low end torque like the Manual mode.

I'm having the rims done Friday and tint today. Does anybody know of chip/ECU mods for this car yet? Hard to find with internet searches. Here she is:
One last question I'm keeping the M-Rims but darkening them. Do you think Black is the color or should I keep the color closer to charcoal gray/gun metal? She is a Space Gray with Black Dakota leather interior.

Thanks for your help peeps.

Hi Znod! Happy to meet up in So Cal once broken in.

My '05 545 has all the power I could ever want and as far as passing and overtaking on the highway it simply is not an issue as this car is a beast. Does the '08 550 beat it by a few tenths 0-60...maybe but so what? IMO there is certainly the law of diminishing returns when it comes to this whole silly horsepower race between the Japanese & German auto makers. Also, if you are not tracking one of these on a regular basis you will very rarely, if ever, in a daily driving scenario get to experience the vehicles' true potential.

There have been no tests of the 08 at least in the big 3 US auto mags yet. I guess time will tell.

Hi Znod! Happy to meet up in So Cal once broken in.

SoCal
I haven't tested my car's performance lately. Recently, I updated to 25.01.01. It feels good, but I can't feel a few tenths difference to 60 or in the 1/4. I might get to So Cal for a "meet and greet," but when I'm in So Cal, I usually am busy with friends with my time planned out for me. But, we'll see.
