I have had a chance to drive the 530 with and without sport, and the 545 without sport, and has anyone had the feeling that the 530 handles better? Not as heavy in front and better in turns than the 545, or am I just crazy? I also loved the active roll stabilization, but active steering was a little strange.

P.S. Comparing the 530 without sport and the 545 without sport, I still had to conclude the 530 had better handling.

Pay the money for the 545, because you will just end up regretting it later!

I have been driving my 545i sportmatic for about a week. While I only drove the 530 for a brief period at the dealer before I ordered the 545i, I am glad I went for the 545i. The power and the responsiveness is incredible! In any gear, including the 6th gear, if you press the accelerator even slightly, there is a surge of power and it quickly accelerates with no lag. I bought the car for my wife and she said that one problem that she is having is that she has to press the gas pedal very lightly while driving....otherwise the car takes off!!

If you can afford it, get the 545i. Remember that if you get the sports package, the effective difference is only about $6500.

Also go for the comfort seats. The side bolsters can be adjusted so that they become just like the Ricaro's that I had in my earlier 320 or you can adjust them to be ordinary. Great range of adjustments including the ability to adjust the top half of the seat independently.

The 530 and 545 are both great automobiles!

It's not a question of affordability. I'm currently driving an E39 540, but have an E60 530 on order.

You're right, the price difference in my case is about $5000, but I just don't need the additional horsepower. I've been able to stay out of trouble this long with my 540...I don't want to press my luck!

I agree, While the 530 is a wonderful car the 545 as my son said " this thing is a beat" I test drove them both before I bought a 545iA sport and have never regretted it. as far as the handling goes I would agree that the 530 is a little bit more lively and a bit quicker on the turn in. But ingage the DSC and omg. this car is on rails. either way you can't go wrong!
