Currently I have 14 mpg (US), but sometimes it's worse.

Thanks for the discovery. I do alot of highway driving and I am consistantly getting about 4-5mpg less than what the computer is saying.

I will try this.

Good luck to you guys resetting code 20.It may take a few trys to get it right.
Its easy to screw up the procedure and have to start over.It was hard to explain
in a few words but hopefully was enough to get you pointed in the right direction.

I've been keeping my spreadsheet as well. Notations of fuel brands and tire pressure changes as well.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding is that the OBC computes the average since the last reset. If you are calculating the mileage since the last fill-up and the car is calculating since the last reset, these could be very different numbers. Do all of you guys reset the computer at each fill-up?

I almost always reset OBC when I fillup.Sometimes I let OBC go for several fillups, but I keep track of total gallons on fillups and calculate manually.been doing this for as long as I can remember

My Ride: Arrived 3 June 2005: 2005 545i - Orient Blue, Black interior, Sport, Steptronic, Cold Weather, NAV, Sirius, Logic7, Comfort Seats, Sunshades. What a glorious ride!

Just filled my tank for the first time; used 16.5 gallons to travel 267 city miles. That comes out to 16.2 mpg.

I did not really use the acceleration of the vehicle to any great extent (no use of DS mode except for one brief spurt "just to see what it's like"), but almost entirely stop-and-go type travel. And I generally do not allow moss to grow as I pull away from the light.

No complaints about this mileage from such a vastly powerful engine, and I expect it might improve as the engine breaks in.

Thats pretty good... I get an average of 16mpg ish also... with 50% City 50% highway and of that 50% highway 50% of that is traffic.

Ya considering its a V8 with 325HP... what kinda milage do you want???

I want the mileage advertised on the vehicle--which is 18 city and 26 highway....at 50/50, that should give me 22 MPG....after 2,100 miles I am still only averaging 15 MPG, which is no where close to 22.....BMW claims the car is still in it's break in period and if it persists at only 15 MPG when I reach 5,000 miles then I should bring in the car....sound right???

15 sounds normal... depending what kind of city driving and what kind of highway driving you are doing. if you always need to slow down an accelerate up to speed again you'll never get good milage. the rated 18 26 is more ideal cruising conditions... some people actually get MORE than 26 crusing on the highway.
