Thanks for all the replies. As it relates to the differences between ride height on a sport vs. non-sport, do you know approximately this difference?

The total height difference between a 535i and a 535xi in Canadian speced cars is 0.55 inch; but not sure that answers your query.
Cheers

My Ride: On Order as of May 6- 2007 530i Titanium Grey and Grey Leather, with Sport Package, Premium Pkg, Cold Pkg.
2006 Porsche Boxster
I chose the RWD 530i Sport. It was just fine in the winter with the Winter set up wheels.

550 sport is excellent in the snow with proper tires. I have actually fitted a plow blade to the front of my RWD 550i and have been earning some extra cash on snowy days.

My Ride: 1973 porsche 911, 32,000 miles, with all S options and leather sport seats. 2004 porsche GT3,white track car, 2003 porsche boxter "my wife's" 2004 3/4 ton suburban tow vehicle, 24' pace trailer, 2006 BMW530XI, black, auburn, also "my wife's" about to buy a BMW 550I,silver gray,
I recommend the 530XI. Very sure footed in all conditions with standard all season tires. + side, no purchase of wheels and snow tires, + side safety, + side, you'l get there on time, + side, I can get up our 1800 foot drive, - down side, can't tell when it's slippery!

(mild to moderate snow and ice). If I went with the rwd sport, I would definately have to get winter tires/wheels.
Thanks!

Its really your choice and personal taste getting an awd vs rwd; tires are the key whichever you choose. The new winter tires don't suffer in dry handling/noise/traction or ride. In "mild to moderate" snow and ice with the right rubber>>rwd is fine. If you live and drive where its very hilly>>get awd.
Thanks!
