As far as I know the 550i has the N62 engine and is not direct injection so you should not have this issue.

Sorry about everyone's luck. I gave my E39 to cousin and it has more than double the highest mileage car on this site and has no issues. last M52 engine they made and I have an M54 with 134K mmiles and 2 others which are well over 50K miles and no issues. Personally I don't think carbon buildup will be a problem and I'm sticking to this until someone proves me wrong.

But then again M52 and M54 are same engines and never seen an issue. I will never buy a newer BMW. I will never go beyond an M54. Forget it.
