- General US perception of diesels (noisy, bad performance etc.) Most Americans don?t like diesels and BMW does not want to have bad sales.
- Low-sulfur diesel not widely available (or not at all?) in the USA
- Does not meet emission requirements in California, Maine, Massachusetts, New York or Vermont meaning you cant register your car there.
- Americans don?t need diesels anyway because your gas is so cheap.

Also, in the USA very few diesel pumps. Usually only on the motorways for trucks, a bit far to go and fill up!!
Whose going to take the gamble first, the gas companies putting in more pumps or the vehicle manufacturers introducing diesel cars!!
