My 535d LCI has just developed a most annoying slight WHIRRING noise. It only happens while accelerating and sounds lime an auto transmission upshifting rapidly. The sound does not corrospond to my ACTUAL upshifts and it's really difficult to make out whether ist coming from the engine or rear of the car. Have tried turning off the air-con but noise still there. Noise not there if car is in neutral and car throttle is blipped.
This noise is really driving me crazy and it can be vaguely heard in the background if the radio is on low volume!!!!!!!!! Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

My 535d LCI makes a whirrirrring sound under hard acceleration. Found out that some vibrations in the engine/drivetrain makes the plastic cover for the gear selector vibrate. Have not found any solution for the problem other then to put you hand and gently press the plastic cover down when flooring it....
Was very hard to locate the sound had my brother in the car and we had to do 15-20 hard accelerations before we could locate it.

thamks for that MARQS. I'll give that a try tomorrow and see if it makes any difference. Surely a loose plastic cover could be resolved or some sort of dampening material inserted etc.
