thanks for the comparison hondik, nice and to the point.

Re. the brakes. Which part of the brakes seemed larger on the 535d ? According to ETK, the disc diameter and caliper type is the same on the front and rear for both cars...
Hi, they really are way bigger ... I don't know if we can find 545i pics for reference but when we can, use these 535d photos:

This must be a joke. Ok, I don't have 545 numbers in my hand, but if you compare newest figures 550i vrs 535d (probable close enough) difference is huge:
16,9 vrs 9 in city, t
in the highway:
7,4 vrs 5,4 is not so bad, and combined:
10,9 vrs 6,7 is very high.
You can disagree the "offical" figures, but at least I have managed to get allmost figures, what BMW is publishing in different models. And , the difference in these is probable the same.
Person who is buying these days 545i for driving a lot, has so low brain capasity anyway, that don't probable understand these figures
Don't forget paper figures vary a lot. But also LCI 535d is much more effective and lighter. Pre-LCI 535d has a bigger appetite in the city A lot of members posted questions regarding consumption around 12-13l / 100Km in urban cycle.

btw. My friend already spent 7.000EUR on petrol for his thirsty 545i in 4 months!!! Can you believe it ..

You have some problems with maths: 545i : 18-19s (ask Andy545), stock 535d 24 and remapped from 21 to 20.
And turbo diesel hardly remapped is less reliable than stock configuration, so .. I wouldn't want a remapped 535d. Never.

It's not my opinion, but of the chronometer: you can debate with it.
I don't wanna argue with you. All I'm saying is the fact is these two cars were VERY similar in their performance. The rest was written above.

I'm not sure if a visual inspection is a valid way to compare but these look no bigger than the 545i/550i.

Just checked BMW ETK, realoem, bmwfans and bmw.de - 545i & 535d are the same diameter and same caliper type. Sorry, can't see the "way bigger"... I must be missing something.

Thanks hondik, while I appreciate your efforts, what's the point if the manufacturer's numbers indicate the same diameter discs across the range of 535d 545i 550i ?

The only difference I found was at the front disc on a 545i the thickness was 6mm less than the other range. From a visual perspective it's hard to perceive this difference so again I'm perplexed by your "way bigger" statement. When I changed to the M5 BBK this is a statement I cordially accepted myself as the discs (348mm to 380mm, and 1 piston calipers to 2 piston calipers) are definitely "way bigger" than the stock setup.

If you check the numbers yourself, you'll be sadly mistaken:

Is it possible that my friend's 545i would have different parts? Seems weird. But if the official figures say so, I trust it and I can sleep better now

Apparently it's the same throughout, but I agree, there are more serious things we could worry about !
