mercedes uses the same 7speed gerbox for the e420cdi as the ml63amg
try the v8 bi-turbo with 315bhp/700 nm (at 1700rpm!!!) and youll quickly forget 535d , believe me

same as 535d being a 3litre. the 420cdi is technically a 3.9litre v8
![Smile](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/imported/smile.gif)
and i would advice you to go to www.wetterauer.de to see the torque and power curves of the two
before you make any judgements, the v8 produces more torque all the way throught the rev band,
and not only that but maximum torque arrives earlier and stays for longer than the 535d..
yes admittedly the 535d revs to 4800rpm with 82of power available at the redline, but with the nature
of the 7speed auto amg sourced box , it doesnt stand a chance.
The 420cdi does 0-60 in 5.75seconds, and that is mercedes own figures... it will likely do it in 5.5
And when chipped the car produces 378bhp/850nm

Anyone can make powerfull cars...Look at the s65 amg thread!

I have got a brand new 535d touring since July.
In November I took it to a reprogrammation for the ECU, close to Madrid, in Spain.
Now the car yields 319 hp and a torque of 630 Nm
0-100 Km/h in 5,5 secs.
Consumtion has dropped a little bit.
Speed limiter has been eliminated. Speed goes up to 290 km/h (Theoretically since speedmeter goes up to 260 km/h)
Reprogrammation was made under www.upsolute.com conditions. Really a conservative one.
Price is under 400 Euros
As you can see, You can have the 2007 car right now, with very little extra money
The character of the car has changed . It responds to your requirements at once and you get reeally sticked to you seat.
Kind regards from Spain

then think what you would be able to do with the new lighter engine producing more horsepower and more torque at a lower RPM?
can you say 350horse power 700nm

The thing is that i'm pretty sure the "new" 535d will only have the little weight advantage. Other then that in sheer engine output i think it will be the same. Same turbos. In fact i think the power/torque difference will be given by an ecu remap. That's about all.

I have already difficulties to transmit all of my 500NM of torque on the road ... And I'm not sure I can keep the rear tires more than 15.000 kms !
So, is it reasonable to have more torque ? I think 600 NM & 300 HP is enough for a 3L engine. 100hp/liter, not bad ! The same specific power then the M3 and the new M5, but with much more torque !
A dynamic car with good performances is one thing. Afterall, we don't need a dragster on normal roads ! If you want more sensations, then start racing or rallying. That's what I do : better for my physical integrity & for the security of others road users !
And if I get a lot of pleasure in racing cars, really I'm very glad to retrieve the comfort & the silence of my "normal" road BMW, believe me !

Some might think that I have really bought the wrong car. (Especially my wife) But after all aren't we all speed and power junkies!

The 535d already has a device to limit the fuel consumption and power! It's the accelerator pedal!
![Online2long](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/imported/online2long.gif)
Seriously, if you keep the revs low (Which is easy in a diesel) then the second turbo doesn't kick in thus limiting power and keeping the consumption low... If you want to go a bit lairy then use the second turbo and all that power

What do u mean by "low"? the lowest possible is at 1500rpm in manual mode. And even so the little turbo is spolled up. Almost from 1000rpm the little one get's spolled.

I have a 535d on order and actually the amount of power is not anything that worries me. In fact I would have prefered a button like the M-one on the M5. So the normal would be like 195hp and 25% lower consumtion and when the button is pressed I get the 272hp. Like a HW and sports mode.

You sure? My 530d will quite happily 'cruise' (I'd guess between 30mph (4th) and 60mph (6th)) at well under 1,500rpm? I had it sitting at about 1,100rpm the other day in 5th/6th - getting over 50mpg

Perhaps the 535d is different to my 530d? But with all that torque at just over 1000rpm then surely it could cruise lower, or at least the same, as my 530d? (Sometimes more power is more efficient!)
