Hi all,

according to the document attached, 535d consumption should vary from 4.5l to 9l/100Km (Extra-urban to Urban - see page 31). I'm not even anywhere close to these figures. Last days around 18mpg in the city. Should I be bothered with that? It's more likely to be 545i consumption..
Hello, not that long time ago we had some explanation in newspapers why the consumption figures from car producers varies from the real consumption. Check this link to see how the official figures are made.

http://www.vcacarfueldata.org.uk/informati...ting-scheme.asp

You can see they are far from how the car is used regularly by us, drivers. The result was that the real consumption is allways 1-60% more than the car producers tells us. I had to translate this chart from czech to english - which is not good at all, so I am sorry, for you it must be pain to read this

Car - Consumption by manufacturer - Real Consumption - difference in %

Car / consumption l/100km consumption l/100km (in %)

Mercedes G 55 AMG 15,9 l B+ 24,3 l B+ 53,0 %

Lexus RX 400 h 8,1 l B 12,0 l B 48,0 %

Honda Civic Hybrid 4,6 l B 6,6 l B 43,5 %

Toyota Prius 1.5 HSD 4,3 l B 6,0 l B 39,5 %

Mitsubishi Colt 1.5 CZT 6,8 l B 9,4 l B 38,0 %

Fiat Panda 1.3 Multijet 16 V 4,3 l N 5,9 l N 37,0 %

Citroen C1 HDi 55 4,1 l N 5,5 l N 34,0 %

BMW 123d 5,2 l N 6,9 l N 32,7 %

Kia Cee?d 1.4 CVVT 6,1 l B 8,0 l B 31,0 %

VW Polo BlueMotion 3,9 l N 5,1 l N 30,8 %

so guys, i have realized that this thread makes little sense without the average speeds. Let me suggest the following template that we should use so that we get a good estimation of how we compare with each other. Since we have a number of members from THE island , let us agree to use MPG, MPH and miles as the common unit.

just fyi: conversion from litres/100km to mpg is done by: 285/your consumption, ie. 285/12 l/100km = 23.75 mpg
just fyi: conversion from km and km/h to miles and mph respectively: divide by 1,6, ie. 100km/1,6 =62,5 miles

OK - so here we go:

Total distance travelled: ....... in miles
Average speed: ........ in miles per hour
Average consumption: ......... in miles per gallon
Model: either pre (before 03/07) or LCI (after 03/07)

So my data for the current gas tank is:
281 miles / 24.5 mph / 26 mpg / pre

Russ:
2000 miles / ????? mph / 32.8 mpg / lci

Blunt:
5000 miles / 69 mph /30.3 mpg / ???

so aeroresh, 535dBoy, 9 LEE, hondik, bardel, ressla, den535d - i need your average speeds, only then does this homework make sense...

The i-drive is accurate enough for the statistics, and i think a distance travelled of 20 miles or more should be accurate enough - obviously the higher the better, ideally a entire tank of fuel...

thanks rumman
