a) Sport mode on a 535d? What dat? Does that come with Dynamic Drive or is that your name for D/S?

b) Why would the bigger wheels be much slower? Because they have a greater mass? The mass and rolling radius affects the Moment of Intertia. The wheel size and tyre profile affect the rolling radius.

I don't really think that the fatter tires would result in worse results...but i might be wrong. It may even get better ones because of the imporved grip.

well i did a few runs,..

1. run1 with revs at 3000rpm then release on D - 6.59secs
2. run2 : revs at 3000rpm then release on sport mode - 6.4secs
3. run3 - revs at 4000rpm then release with steptronic - 6.5secs - Traction control delayed takeoff
4. run4 - revs at 1500rpm, traction control off, sport mode - 6.1secs

I believe i can even do it faster with steptronic because the changeover from 1st to 2nd is a bit slow using sport mode. And it changes at 5000revs. I think changing with steptronic at 4500 will be faster.

some magaiznes say the 0-60 is 6.1, others say 6.5. so it really depends on howit is done. Mind u i am also using stock 245 tyres. 275tyres would be much slower.

When i chip the car to 350hp and 700NM then i shall try it again.
When you refere to revs at 3000-4000rpm you are doing brake torque? Or what?

Yes fatter tyres like 275 as compared to 245's have more resistance so will affect the 0 - 100 times and certainly have a big impact on your top speed.

If the 275's allow for much more grip to deliver more of the power to the road then they may be a benefit for the 0 - 100. But if you are able to deliver the required power the wheels with the 245 tyres then the extra 30cm's is not necessarily a good thing.

Yes brake torque. I had the traction control on, which was my mistake however i feel there is too much torque at those revs and it just spins the wheels.

WHen the gearbox is in drive, move the gearleaver to the left. Its in sports mode now, it will also say DS in the screen between the dials.

by sport mode i simply am refering to putting the auto gearbox to SPORT - ie pushing the stick to the left. The car has an M-sport package so there is no dynamic drive since dynamic drive is not compatible with the sports suspension and sport bumpers.

the bigger wheels are slower due to the extra grip not necessarily the mass. when i had my 530d e39, i put on 275's from the standard 245's and my 0 - 60 time suffered - as well as fuel consumption. It is for this reason that I prefer to have 245's + spacers.

Extra 30cm? Gee, they're wide!

I can't believe the extra 6cm would have a huge impact on the times. (We're talking tenths) Depending on the take-off the reduced slip would actually help. However, I note best times seem to be achieved without slipping (1,500rpm) - makes sense... But there's some satisfaction with a fast start with some slippage (A trail of rubber on the road is even better!)

I would say a remapped 231 bhp 530d would be as good as a std 535d albeit different as only one turbo. Go for it
Had the e-maps remap yesterday (231 - 272hp. 500Nm - 590) and was laughing out load all the way home last night. I will be losing my license soon as I flitted betweem 70 - 130mph with huge dollops of torque.

Only got 3K on the clock so it will get even faster with more miles as the ECU has a factory limiter that holds back settings for the first few thousand miles. 10K + I'll be having even more fun.

Would reccomend e-maps (UK) - same equipment used as DMS but much better price (lower overheads)

In real world motoring conditions, feels just as quick as a 5 year old M3 convertible I drove recently
