Indeed. The difference would be VERY small. Go for it!
One should buy the performance level one needs, from factory.

All tuning will cost a lot - later

But if one races, then it's OK, 'cause everyone know its expencive!

I.e. the new 320iS, its made for tuning and not only the engine...

If the 535d were chipped, would the transmission hold up to the torque load for long?

I was told that the 535d transmission is used also in the 745d which has close to 700NM and can still be chipped !!

I did a 0 - 60 on my standard 535d yesterday in 6.1secs! most runs did 6.4\6.5 till i finally got it right. So now its ready to be chipped!

well i did a few runs,..

1. run1 with revs at 3000rpm then release on D - 6.59secs
2. run2 : revs at 3000rpm then release on sport mode - 6.4secs
3. run3 - revs at 4000rpm then release with steptronic - 6.5secs - Traction control delayed takeoff
4. run4 - revs at 1500rpm, traction control off, sport mode - 6.1secs

I believe i can even do it faster with steptronic because the changeover from 1st to 2nd is a bit slow using sport mode. And it changes at 5000revs. I think changing with steptronic at 4500 will be faster.

some magaiznes say the 0-60 is 6.1, others say 6.5. so it really depends on howit is done. Mind u i am also using stock 245 tyres. 275tyres would be much slower.

When i chip the car to 350hp and 700NM then i shall try it again.

a) Sport mode on a 535d? What dat? Does that come with Dynamic Drive or is that your name for D/S?

b) Why would the bigger wheels be much slower? Because they have a greater mass? The mass and rolling radius affects the Moment of Intertia. The wheel size and tyre profile affect the rolling radius.
