330d i think
Not sure what i'm going to change it for yet. A 330d is a possibility, although i've got some weird plans hatching.

Basically my monthly mileage has risen to between 2 & 3K which aint condusive with M5 ownership. When i bought the car i was doing 1K miles per month max.

Also my wife is stopping work for good next month, so her Company Car goes back & i'll need to fund a car for her. Still got my 997 Turbo on order for March 2008, so if i downsize now i'll be back in something special in the not too distant future.

Has anyone ever worked out why Extended is plastic & Full Leather is leather?? Always been something i've never understood, as Extended is the Standard on M5's & Full is a costly option.

Very stupid BMW marketing & TBH Full Leather in the M5 is a total rip-off at ?5k. Extended is almost as nice & you should then put the ?5K into a re-map & sports exhaust. It's only a nice to have IMHO.

Steve,

The car sounds awesome & take it form me you'l be blown away every time you start her up & drive her. The 535d is amazing & yours a stunning example however it won't compare to the grin factor you'll get from your new M5.

I would say don't do it. I don't know why people are saying that you will gain on handling... are they blind You have on your 535d PSS9 and stronger sways so with the right setup the M5 will have at least the same handling if not worst than your 535d. You already have the M5 rear with the M-Package, so about the look is almost the same car. The only difference will be the engine, SMGIII and LSD. I think that you are that guy that prefer to make turns faster, than to do straight line accelerations, and for that your CSL is alot better than the M5. I know that because i have a E46 M3 with some mods (PSS9, UUC sways, CSL wheels, full supersprint, carbon intake, schrick cams, custom remap...), that it isn't a CSL but it can give me an idea. And will you put the car on P500 every time that you get in the car??? I caught a M5 on P400 mode on the autobahn, and my E61 535d was as faster as the M5 without the need to downshift like the M5 when we caught slower cars... About top speed, my 535d made once 290kph on gps and 280kph is obtained easily (most tuners don't take off the 2nd speed limiter at 275kph).

IMO, the 535d is a better cruising car than the M5. For fun you already have the CSL.

Interesting points, and I appreciate your reply. Unfortunately a little late, as I've already paid the deposit

The CSL lives in Germany, the M5 is my daily driver. If I was sensible I agree that I'd stick with the 535d, but my 535d is now back to stock suspension as the PSS9 was too low, and really getting uncomfortable (on track was great, but my daily driver transports customers around as well).

I'll give the M5 a try and we'll see how I get on. If it really doesn't work out I'll get a facelift 535d and trade in the M. I am removing all the goodies off the 5 series first, M5 wheel, brakes etc. The 535d AP brakes and calipers don't fit the M5 so they will be for sale soon if anyone's interested.

Couldn't agree more - Full Leather is lovely but just not worth it, IMHO - in fact, it's about the only option my car doesn't have - took a bit of nudging before the factory agreed to make a car with Extended Perforated Merino Leather, but with Alpina, anything is ultimately possible!!!

Enjoy the M5, Steve! You didn't consider the B5, then?
