Now i'm a bit confused and i can't really see the advantages of the 530d over the 535d till 2000rpms. Are there any?

 

Erm, no. Same torque @ same rpm = same power. This is why I'd like to see what the 286 hp engine's torque curve looks like.

OTOH - who says you must drive between 680 and 2000 rpm?

Later edit: actually, Pxoes's graphs are scaled wrong. The scales are different! Look at the original graph for the 535 posted by 700700 and you'll see that the red line (remapped bhp) goes above the 220 line at the top of the overlapping diagram scale...

(The 530 graph must be stretched on top of the 535 and background removed, not the other way around)

 

Erm, sorry by bad (not a very good first impression, is it??). I didn't think of the fact that there are two y-axes in the graph. I scaled only for momentum. Not for power. What I wanted to do cannot be done in one single graph (I realize now...)

interesting ... dlevi67, i am trying to find one of my other threads but to no avail (about how great the new 231bhp engine is)... What many tuners found (wetterauer, hs, g-power) and reported was not only that the new engine was producing 500nm at 1750rpm, but in actual fact that at 2000rpm the output of the engine was around 520-530nm !! based on this and some preliminary tests i was then able to carry (on dealer vehicles) some acceleration times, and although surprising, i concluded that if driven normally, without brake torqueing, then the 530d would be quicker from 0-100km/h than the 535d. Of course the new revised alu block to be found in next year's 535d would resolve this issues, i pointed out that if you were in the market for a new diesel i would wholeheartedly recommend the 530d!

 

Given the small difference in torque at low revs and the favourable 80kg difference in weight, I'm not too surprised.

The interesting thing is that whereas the 218/272 comparison used to be on how little turbo lag there was on the 272 engine (due to the small turbo), now the point is on how much powerband there is on the 272 due to the large turbo...

 

Sorry, but Dyno charts that 700700 posted are wrong considering 535d..

They are not necessarily wrong. What you have from the forum is (I believe) the official BMW chart. The Wetterauer chart that 700700 posted is "a" 535 dynoed by Wetterauer. They aren't all that different - though the Wetterauer car is considerably less "full" lower down.

BMW has the 745d for the E400cdi. V8 vs V8 and 330bhp vs 315bhp. But you can bring the one you like most, that my 535d will take care of them easially with "only" St1+. The St2 in coming soon...

 

yep, these are the dyno results from a vanilla 535d pre and post chip-tuning

manufacturers claims are some times unrealistic... i would like to point your attention to e90post , for Vishnu (tuning company) results
on the 335i tweaking... some surprising things will come up

 

That is exactly what i ment. I dont believe that BMW would release information that is so much different from the reality. If you compare those two charts - there is a remarkable difference. Maybe some forum member who have had his 535d chipped could help us, and post some pre/post Dynos?

Anyway my point is that when I was buying my car I test drove both 535d and 530d(231bhp) and there was a clear difference in throttle response and performance FEELING. Off cource i did not took any 0-100 times etc. Sales agent told me that 535d is tuned to give a more sporty feeling when driving, all though the difference between those two cars is not very big in figures. (official 0-100 figures what was given to me that time were 6.5s to 535d and 7.1s to 530d(auto).

And for 700700 what i have read from these forum and experiences off other BMW drivers, manufacturer does not normally exaggerate figures/performance of BMW. Normally it is the opposite way, they tend to give conservative figures...
