I have had an inquiry from a BMWCCA member regarding his July 2007 build 535xi. It seems that he has had AWD/DSC failure warning messages four times since he has owned the vehicle, accompanied at some point with battery failure. He states he has not put a lot of miles on the car, perhaps 10,000 miles at this point. He states that he bought just about every option BMW offered at the time, except for the IR system for road hazards.

Has anyone reading this had similar issues, and if so, what was the resolution?

thanks - John Gamel, BMWCCA Ombudsman

I had this error warning come up a few times when I owned my 530xi. However, I believe it was due to the fact that I had the ECU remapped and they didn't take into account that my car was AWD. Therefore, thie AWD/DSC failure notice kept coming on. The car was fine though. I'd drive a few miles and the light would eventually go out.

That said, you might want to recommend that they get the car reflashed with the latest software update.

Hope you're well, John.

Calton - Thanks for your reply. I did forget to ask the fellow if that had been done. I would like to get a peek at the BMW service file on the car to see if a re-flash were attempted at some point. Might help to know that.

On another note, seems like your BMW presence has expanded some!

Battery problems will also cause all sorts of error messages to pop up. I'd left my angel eyes on for a couple days and another time accidentally left the engine off and AC running for almost an hour and had similar DSC ABS and a few other messages come up.

Yes. My wife wanted her own BMW and was sick of the M5. Can you believe that? Women! So we ended up getting her a new X5 a few months ago. I figure this will be used a lot, as we are expecting our first. I can't imagine my M will be used a lot, as this new addition comes into our lives, so it only seemed fair that we stick with BMW and get something we both liked. I've added a few additional goodies and blacked the entire thing out. You know me, my cars can never look bone stock.

I have a July '06 build 530xi and had this fault once. It was corrected by replacement of a sensor in the steering wheel. I've attached pics of the error messages. If you would like VIN information please PM me.

That X5 looks like something my former "clients" might have driven!

Hahahahaha! It's definitely "murdered" out. Are you familiar with that term?

DSC, ABS, Transmission, Airbags on idrive, other warning symbols randomly flashing up on the dash. Once the car was run for a few minutes the errors disapeared. There was a thread somewhere about someone with a faulty alternator having the same problem. Low batery voltage will prevent many modules from starting up or communicating effectively causing all sorts of errors.
