Nah man...i was kidding with the conspiracy theory. I hope you realised that... All i asked is for hard evidence as needforspeed in the end provided. And for that i thank him! That's what i asked. Cuz i didn't know that fact i wanted to be sure and pozitive about it not just on words in the wind. Now i know.
I was quite surprised when I discovered that the engine in the 530d had been upgraded, but not the 535d. In fact being truthful I was p*ssed off when I found out the 530d engine had been upgraded cause I had already bought my car

It does seem strange that they are holding back in the 535d, but to be fair it doesn't really have much direct competition, so I think BMW probably consider the power level more than acceptable. Also - looking at what DMS have done to forum members cars, the exiting set up is clearly not 'stretched'.

I think colej might be right - that we will see a 335d with the new engine and then a new 535d. That would make sense cause the e90's seem to be slightly ahead of the e60's. I also think we will get a 535i with the bi-turbo engine at some point.

I love all these diesel / petrol threads cause it amazes me (and amuses) how people take sides. Personally, I still want a fast petrol car, but the thing is, the diesels are so good and so appropriate for the way I use my car that I would be paying more for the petrol, for no real benefit (other than high reving).

The only thing I really miss at the moment is a manual gearbox.

BmakeWay.....
you just have wrote down what you want to hear.....
sorry but there are no engine belts to eb changed at the petrol engine, simply as there none. this engine uses metal chain..... and besides what I mean is a diesel thing.
for Audi A4 it was around 2.000 EUR including labor so I do not call that cheap....

and about the gas prices.... you compared the 100+ octane petrol..... well if you take the base for both petrol and diesel the prices are really the same

come on man, put it this way.... besides the torque which is not everything you can't favor the diesel over the petrol that much as you do )

The 535i will replace the 540i indeed... I might be tempted In fact, I'm trying to convince the wife to have a 'people carrier' and I can get a 335i coupe....

WHoooaaa...2000euros? I don't know wich belt are you talking about!? it's to technical for me? The drive belt? What can cost this much? I think you mean chain drive and belt drive...right?If so we should be able to spot with the help of others (as native speakers) that belt on real oem.

Yes probably true. I NEVER used the worst petrol/diesel in all my cars i've owned. Not even in my 1st car (a skoda fabia 1.4 16v 101bhp). And i doubt there are too many people on this forum that simply use the worst there is. In fact i bet almost all of us here give our babies the best juice there is. So my theory stands up here.

come on man, put it this way.... besides the torque which is not everything you can't favor the diesel over the petrol that much as you do )
Yes i can with my drawbacks. Indeed i miss a good tune of a petrol engine and if i drive an M car and then i get back to my diesel i get really dissapointed in the sound. Indeed i miss the electricity of the petrol engine and the high revs and all it's characteristics all in all...but as facts prove diesel engine cars came awfully close and in some cases even better than their petrol rivals in terms of performance. So that's what i've said: you pay extra for the petrol just for the better sound and for the revs. That's it. You said it yourself that the numbers are the same. And INDEED the torque generated by the diesel and the way the engine delivers it make it feel faster and more there than the petrol even though it might be just a feel and in reality it only is equal to the petrol. So what? If it's equal and much more economical and seems more fun to play with all that torque...anyway we could go on and on like this forever. There is smth though that no diesel no matter how good it is will never reach and those are the M engines.

He he he ... I had the same conversation with my wife about me getting something smaller and getting her a nice 'family' car ...... I think she like the e60 though having got used to driving it - she's gone mad with the torque

I thought I read somewhere that there will be a new 540 and 550 at that time also (using the same 4.5 liter engine with and w/o tt). However, looking at the relative recent introduction of the current 540 and 550, this would be a surprise. However this would be:
530 -> 265 hp (195 kW - 3.0L)
535 -> 300 hp (220 kW - 3.0Ltt)
540 -> 354 hp (260 kW - 4.5L)
550 -> 400 hp (295 kW - 4.5Ltt)

no competition ? it gets obliterated by the e420cdi mate. 4.0 v8 bi-turbo with 313bhp and 730nm from 1600rpm

Nice to have you back 700700 - where've you been mate ?

Anyway an e420cdi sounds good - shame they don't seem to sell it in the UK (it was supposed to be introduced last year though wasn't it). The best available here is the e320cdi which is closer in performance to the 530d than the 535d - that's why I said there was no real competition.

E420 sounds goood on a drag race. Indeed the 535d is beaten by it on a drag but what about on a track? I bet on a track the tabels are turned....

cut this **** folks! Peter is right and also BTMW in a way or another. (535d is the same old like mine and bigger turbo but we all know this, as this is the best and most informative forums).
Those who like petrols drive it, others (incl. me) like diesels then that.
No clue in saying "my sound is better" as I do not need a loud car and more bass can be achieved with any aftermarket exhausts. Also no clueless "my torque is better" its all true but will one win on the other never! That is why we can choose. True I love my old 3L diesel, keeping the environment clean w particle filter, the power and torque, my consumption I never cared but it depends on my feet right, normally quite heavy . The sound is amazing nothing inside, when you floor it than people are , and will be fine tuned by some quads later It will be if all goes well -I try to post the dyno around 260bhp and 600Nm- for the end of June. I know that DMS could give 270bhp, but I would never pretend that it will be as smooth as a 535d, or like skaffa's but better than a normal and much different from a petrol.

I was hesitating to give for a second turbo that I wanted an extra 10.000?+VAT. My dad has 530i (old) new 530ix (is coming soon to replace) I love that too. Two different ones, of course I love mine better!

If I could I would buy the 550i tune it up a bit and almost have the (M5 feeling for less Gs ) will see in 2010 with F10 if it will be diesel-more environment- or beast 550i (408bho as basics)
