Look in this forums classifieds and pick yourself some rims + tires ,there are a bunch of stock 18's up for sale! Also most of the slop of the steering will go away with a strut upgrade (Tire Rack.com has a whole write up on Koni's). Only do lowering springs if you're going to do struts too. Oh and once you go past a 40 series tire you'll feel most imperfections of the roads.

unfortunately upgrading the suspension on these cars is very expensive.. as in not worth it (unless u got money to burn)

I don't know about that. The non-Sport 5's handling is so awful (in comparison to the Sport) that it probably is worth it. A non-Sport 5's handling is pretty much on par (or worse than) the competition; any competition.
"The 545i is a sublime machine with a suspension tuned to be perhaps the perfect compromise between ride and handling, an engine that speaks like Miles Davis's trumpet, and a chassis that feels more solid than the USS Ronald Reagan's keel."
Bottom line is that BMW really doesn't make a bad handling car - they all leave the factory with different degrees of good. Sport pack equipped E60's are great handling machines, but the non-sport isn't too bad.

+1 on the 25s reset
And if u want better response, u wont go wrong with the SB. BUY IT NOW. This is something that will last and is A MUST ON UR 530i.
As u also noticed by reading the other threads, Sprint Booster will give u a NEW CAR.
TRUST ME ITS A MUST. And ull get the response THAT U EXPECTED. After u installed it, Come and tell me which one feels better, ur X5 or ur 530i.
ENJOY UR NEW RIDE AND WELCOME TO THE FORUM

Get a ECU remap for gains in HP/TQ. For your 530i, a ECU remap will gain about 12 HP/12-15TQ. EuroRev is currently having a discounted sale on ECU remap.

You know, that's really not accurate. As an example, Motor Trend ran a test a couple of years back pitching a non-sport 545 against the E500, the M45 and the STS. The 545 won, with a lot of praise for its ride and handling. Here's their summary:
"The 545i is a sublime machine with a suspension tuned to be perhaps the perfect compromise between ride and handling, an engine that speaks like Miles Davis's trumpet, and a chassis that feels more solid than the USS Ronald Reagan's keel."
Bottom line is that BMW really doesn't make a bad handling car - they all leave the factory with different degrees of good. Sport pack equipped E60's are great handling machines, but the non-sport isn't too bad.

There are many levels of mods available, if you're complain is basically excessive body roll and don't want to sacrifice too much, convert to m-sport suspension with m-sport anti roll bars aka sway bars
That should do the trick. If for some reason, like many of us here, that's not enough. Then lets talk!!!
