Exactly what happened to me, I got my 525 when gas was $4+ a gallon, I thought the v8 would eat gas. Now I really wish I would have gotten a v8, MPG isn't that different anyway.

If you are asking the question to begin with, I think you would second guess yourself if you were not to go with the 545. There is a dramatic performance difference between it and a 530. And, frankly, not as dramatic a difference between the 545 and the 550.

I am averaging 24.5 MPG overall with mine, and every time I reset the gauge, it ends up about there again after a week or two. Fact is, these V8 cars do not get terrible gas mileage at all.

My auto insurance just totaled my 2006 525i. I test drove a 545i before, it was a beast! But during the time the gas prices were ridiculous! With the gas prices fairly low, I am considering a 545i. I want your suggestions gents! What do you guys think? Let me know, thanks!
The difference in gas does not out weigh the fun and purr of the V8. 545i.

The straight six is an awesome motor and a great match for the 3 series but a bit small for the 5.

For the added size and weight of the 5 the V8 is a better match. However the V8 is more power than the car needs... That's what makes it so much fun

And the V8's due come loaded, it definitely feels like the top of the range...

Test drive both back to back to see what you like.

545 is also heavier than 530. Power can't compensate everything. Sure, straight line performance wise, 545 wins but 530 may have better handling.
