530i 2007 N52 Oil Consumption
Hi, I just purchased a 2007 530i from my uncle. The car is in almost perfect condition, driven with respect and taken care of in the most diligent ways, it had an extended warranty which ended about 3 months ago. The last time it was taken to the dealer it had 45000 km (28k miles) and it had a full service performed under warranty, no issues were found. Now it is out of warranty and has 46500km (almost 29k miles). I decided to fork out the 400 dollars they asked for a full check in a place you would usually call the stealership (only 1 here in the Dominican Republic, "Autogermanica"). Now I have the results, and they are asking for almost 8k to fix a "small oil consumption" in the engine. It kind of fucks my mind up that a car, which has always been driven in a moderate manner, with such low mileage and just out of warranty could develop such an expensive problem out of the blue. I kind of feel they want to screw me up with this quote. What do you guys think? Is it possible? Do you think they might steal some parts from my engine now? What should I do!? There isn't white smoke coming from the exhaust!
I'm confused right now.
Post Scriptum: I will attach a pdf with the quote from the dealer in case anyone understands spanish and their quote. Also, I'm not a native english speaker, nor I have lived amongst any so more than forgiving my mistakes any clarifications are welcome.

Hard to tell what this really is -- it looks like multiple things. There aren't many part numbers on the quote. I see 11517546994, which is a water pump - nothing to do with oil leak there. 11127555757 is a head gasket. I see new pistons. I would argue with the dealer that the car was serviced all along and should be fixed under warranty. If these problems are real and not just dealer FUD (fear, uncertainty and doubt), it didn't just develop this problem and they should have caught the problem under warranty.

Yep, I doubt the car mysteriously developed all those problems in 1000 miles. Either they didn't want to fix it under warranty, or they want to get money out of you now that it's out of warranty. I personally do not trust dealers and I would take it to someone you know or an Indy shop for a second opinion.

That's crazy! 8k is way too much money.. i speak spanish and looks like they are replacing a piston? They are raping you on both labor and parts i think.. I say go somewhere else.

I never heard or read about an entire engine rebuild on an N52 because of some oil consumption. Looks like you are getting hosed lol.
From what I see they are removing the engine, rebuilding the engine by replacing all 6 pistons and every gasket, new engine mounts, changing your brake fluid (not even sure if this is necessary when removing an engine), changing your water pump (why?? lol) , an oil change, +2k in labor and over a 1k in taxes. A few random parts in there are bolt kits and a few parts I can't make out since the words are cut off.
If you haven't been adding oil, no visible leaks and there's no blue/black smoke coming out the pipe why worry about it?
Get a second and third opinion if you are concerned about it. I personally wouldn't even worry about unless I was adding oil, smelling a strong oil burning smell, seeing visible leaks or blueish smoke out the pipe.

Clean the engine compartment and take a note of where you see some oils spots. Clean it up and check weekly if the oil spots come back.
Each time you park the car, look under the car and try to notice any oil spots. Before you leave that parking area, check under the car again to see if there are new oil spots.
Also, sometimes the oil level minimum warning on the iDrive can be false depending on engine temperature especially if it has been really cold the night before.
Look for smoke coming from the exhaust.
Just monitor your car. I'm lucky that I have an assigned parking spot at work and at home so I can notice oil leaking or not.
