I have got water type marks permanently stained into lacquer on top surfaces of car, it has been back to BMW and garage and may need respray. Appeared after 4 weeks from new, best seen under flourescent lighting. Anybody else had similar problem or you may have not noticed it, worth a look. I am not a happy chap if it needs a respray.

are you sure the marks weren't stain from bird's shit? because bird shit will leave permanent marks if you not wash it right away after they "bombed" you from he sky...the shit contains acid that can burn your paint in direct sunlight.

but i guess you can try to wax it first. i think it will solve the problem.

He is right, especially with dark colours. I left one bird dropping on for a couple of days, and its eaten into the paintwork on the bonnet. It is not always visible on lighter cars. I am sure this never used to effect paintwork, but the modern "water based" ones seem to. You can get rid of the marks, but you will need a very mild cutting polish, and plenty of patience. I haven't managed to get rid of mine yet.

Absolutely not bird crap. You can't see them in sunlight but all over the car in flourescent light. You can also feel them if you run your fingers over the bodywork. They are like embedded water stains. The likelyhood is that it is rain fallout but on the day in question my there were two other cars on the drive and neither were affected. The admits there is a problem. I will keep you posted

Iain,
Sorry to hear about your paint problems. I will take a closer look at my titanium grey paintwork.

Have you tried paint detailing clay, followed by a MILD polish? I've had great luck with the clay, in many different situations.
