530d loss of power and strange noises.
I have a 2004 530d which has run faultlessly for the 15k miles i've owned it (155,000 total millage) but it developed a bit of a fault last night and I'm not all that sure where to start with it, hopefully have a mechanic looking at it later in the week but it would be useful to have a starting point.
Basically driving a long and it started making a slightly metallic scrapping type noise when accelerating.
It's not noisy until the turbo starts to boost at somewhere around 1300-1500 rpm, when it starts to sound pretty horrible, made it home trying not to accelerate. Its not showing any fault codes on my basic scanner
My first thoughts where that the turbos gone but there are no signs of any water in oil or the other way around and the car doesn't appear to be smoking at all (only other times I've had a turbo failure it's been fairly terminal with water in the oil and lots of smoke).
Just wondering what sort of engine issues there tend to be with the 530's

Just popped out at have another look and it would appear that what ever was slightly broken is now very broken.
Still not to bad on tick over but as soon as you drive there's a lot of white smoke, I'm still assuming it's an issue with the turbo.

Sure sounds like turbo, and at that mileage, it wouldn't be at all surprising. OTOH, that's probably better than a lot of other things that cause smoke / nasty noises. ;-)
