Mine is from 8/2004 with 73500 miles and the flaps still in place (and working).

Anyone know if it has only affected non DRF cars or not ?
hi there what are DRF CARS ?.
mines a oct 04 39ooo miles, so i believe the updated flaps, but will have a look one day.
they must be there for a reason, so removing them, seems wrong to me, maybe i'll just buy a new manifold at 50 ooo miles and replace the whole thing.

I have a 2004 04 plate 530d that has now covered 58000 miles. I have not removed the swirlflaps but the turbo blew on it at 54000!
oh no did you get it fixed or what, i try to let mine idle for 30 secs before i drive off or stop the engine ? i understand ther is a device that does that for you. how often did you change the oil and filter CBS IS CRAP. 17000 miles is way to long. i'm doing mine every 5ooo. good luck with the repair.

I suspect he mean DPF (diesel particulate filter) cars. I removed my swirl flaps a few weeks ago and havent noticed any performance issues. I have just ordered the blanks that PMWLtd sell ?106 delivered), I spoke to a guy called Daniel who was very helpful. I know it is probably a waste of money but it does finish the job a little neater. BTW keep an eye out for Total BMW on the 16th, they advertised they will be running an article on these annoying things.

54 530d Sport with 52000 miles.

Swirl Flaps removed last week - They were solid as a rock.. but I removed them anyway for peace of mind.

Mines out of warranty and I for one do not want to risk a flap breakage.

500 miles so far and the car actually feels more responsive without them at low speed - though this could be due to my EGR which was coked up but now nice and shiny.

how many miles had your car done before you removed the swirl flaps ? were they in bad condition ?. what are these blanking plates ? does this enable you to remove the whole assembly(swirl flap and all). thanks for that info i'll keep me eyes out for the mag. BTW ? am i missing something here ?

why would dpf have any connection with the swirl flaps. surely there miles away.

My car had done 77K miles. The flaps didnt seem loose but they were coated in gunk, to be honest they didnt move freely enough for my liking due to the build up of black deposits. These plates allow you to remove the complete assembly intact flaps an all and cover the large holes that are left. I meant by the way (BTW) keep an eye out for Total BMW magazine they are running a feature this month for sale on the 16th, or so they have advertised.

My DPF comment was in relation to someone asking what DRF was when someone was talking about DRF cars, I believe they meant DPF (just trying to be helpful, after all thats why the forum is here).

I have no regrets about removing mine, I have piece of mind now that i didnt have before . I didnt fancy my chances in the swirl flap lottery...

DPF cars have stronger swirl flap axels than non DPF cars (4,5mm vs. 4mm).
I had these stronger ones, and the system appeared strong when I removed them. However, well... I did remove them anyway.

Thanks, I was not planning to remove them, and the knowledge that mine are a little thicker gives me the peace of mind I needed. I will make two trips to the south of Spain in the next 3 months and don't like to get stuck on the French highway with a fu@$#%#$ up engine.
