So I noticed the other day the 330i/328 uses a 2.5 inch exhaust pipe and the 528/530 uses a 2.75 inch exhaust piping throughout the underside of the car-between the resonator and the rear muffler. Also the resonator is quite a bit larger in the 5 series which makes sense to quiet it down further.

I am not sure I understand using different size piping in cars with the "same" horsepower ratings. That is a signifigant difference in flow and gas velocity and the 3 series always seem to feel more peppy even with worse gearing in the 330i and minimal (70 pounds weight difference)-and the Rpi exhaust changes the piping to 2.5 inches for increase performance--basically the 3 series comes with a higher performing exhaust which is basically an RPI exhaust mod for us--wonder why bmw did this

how is that helpful--hope your being sarcastic. Not only what you posted had nothing to do with the question but what you posted is not even accurate.
The 5 is not little sport and little comfy in that comparison at all.

To put the 3 and 5 in teh same "little comfy" category is way off--seen a 3 and 5 interior lately?? no conparison
