Hi all,
I have a 2004 525i with the M54 engine and it has been shutting down on its own while driving. It used to only occur when slowing down coming to a stop or stopped at a traffic light however now it happens while driving at speed. I used to be able to let it rest for a few minutes then start it up again however now it doesn’t start again after hours.
I have changed the auto transmission fluid however that did not fix the problem.
Has anyone here experience similar issues? Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!

I thought it was a transmission problem. I needed fresh fluids anyway so no harm.
After some reading on the forums it seems like a common problem maybe from a faulty camshaft sensor. I really hope its simple as that!

I don't know about it being a common failure. Part do go bad over time. Check you crankshaft sensor first to see if there is oil around it. You will know for sure by check the codes.
