The 06 525i is completely misleading since the new 525s are 3.0 liter. I was reading the other posts about debadging, and in this case its almost necessary, right from the factory it comes misleading! Sure they can't put a 530i badge but at least this new model needs to be debadged.

Do you guys know if you order brand new can you request them to not badge the car at all?

Peace

At least in Europe, removal of the badge can be specified when the car is ordered.

If you remove the badge using e.g. a hair dryer, and do so before years and months have passed, there should be no visible traces from the badge.

BMWs have been "incorrectly" badged for years - the model name doesn't necessarily reflect the exact size of the engine. E.g. the E39 523i had a 2.5 litre engine, the E60 520i has a 2.2 litre engine, the E39 540i had a 4.4 litre engine - the list goes on. IMHO the model name is supposed to reflect the performance of the car, not the exact engine volume.

The badge is easily removed by sliding dental floss behind and down. You can order any model number badge to replace it from the parts department for around ten bucks. It goes on with adhesive backing. Takes ten minutes total.

BMW never claimed that their numbering system should correspond with badges they put in the cars. It's only a reference to distinguish who paid more money than who.

My 545i is actually 4.4 liter, so is E39 540i's displacement.
The 535d is 3.0 liters, so is 530d.

Mercedes has this discrepancy too. Their C230 Kompressor is actually 1.8 but was 2.3 in the past, so they kept the name.

The 525i is still a 2.5litre engine however it has now been tuned to 215bhp. The newly badged 523i uses a detuned version of the same engine with 177bhp.

Hi ICEMAN, do u know if that document is available in English ?

I downloaded a 523i PDF from bmw.co.uk and it was a mish-mash of wrong information. I emailed bmw and they said it was wrong and they were working on a fix. Like their iDrive.

If i got a reasonable deal for mine I might consider changing. I am also planning to look at an E90 325i on saturday. She how she runs.

USA and Canada get a detuned 3.0 in their 525i and 325i
