My Ride: 520d SE - Jet black, black leather, anthracite headlining, adaptive xenons, hi-fi speakers, usb, front seat heating
Default

Hi

Got my new 520d SE (177 bhp) (spec below) and, OMG, I love it

I have moved from a 120d SE (2004) and the jump in quality is just huge. It really is an amazing car. Really well put together and loads of kit.

So far my particular likes are:

1. Adaptive headlight - they are weird at first, following where you are driving. But they just make so much sense. And I like the way they light up the pavement when going round corners.

2. Engine - I know it's only the 520d and I was expecting it to be a bit slow after the lighter 120d. But it feels good so far.

3. Economy - the OBC on my 120d SE used to show a max of 48mpg for my 100mile round trip to work. This was after run-in. It was about 44-45 when new. I got over 53mgp yesterday in the 520d! (although this could be the OBC being inaccurate)

4. iDrive - It's great, so many things you can adjust and view. I particularly like the oil level display.

5. Paint - I expect I may end up regretting the jet black, but so far it looks excellent. Even after driving to work yesterday in foul conditions, it still looks amazing today. I think the dealer detailing must have applied loads of wax - unfortunately some on the windscreen as well (smear ).

Dislikes:

1. One thing I was a bit surprised about was the windscreen wipers. They are set for left hand drive (they leave a little uncleared arc on the top right of the screen).

Just got the iPod cable so looking forward to seeing all the info and controlling via iDrive!

Spec:

Black Dakota leather LCSW
Jet Black 668
Radial Spoke 243 7.5Jx17" with Run-flats 2SD (Standard)
Visibility Package (Adaptive Xenons) Z5K
Front Seat Heating 494
Enhanced Automatic Air Conditioning 534
Hi-Fi loudspeaker system 676
USB/audio interface 6FL
Anthracite Headlining 775

Enjoy the new car and this forum, Frankie !

Color: yes, black can be a b*tch sometimes (I own a carbon black 520d Touring), but I love it most of the time

Welcome and congrats. My first E60 was Jet Black and it was _great_. Hard to keep clean, but when clean it looked awesome. These days I'm lazy so buy silver, but I still love the look of a black E60.

Congrats Frankie,

We old Forum members like to see pics.

The Jet Black is one of the nicest colors,
but is it clean for more than an hour?

I would also like to hear more about your engine experience.
