Default 520d m-sport tire for comfort?

Greetings,

I have scoured not only this website but quite a lot of tire review sites looking for an answer, but reviews are always talking about grip and corner response, sometimes noise when it's bad, not really comfort per se.

Here is what I am after: I have an '59 520d m-sport on the original Goodyear NCT5 245/40 R18. I don't need high performance, as long as performance is above average I am OK. But above all I want something very quiet and that gives the best ride. Good longevity is important as well. I am happy to go the non-RF if it helps with comfort.

Michelin seems to be top of the list but I really don't need their performance, and I cannot see anything that says they are quieter or more comfortable. Is a change in profile a possibility to help with comfort, going to /45? Is that even possible?

Anyway, I am open to all suggestion to get to the quietest and most comfortable option!
Many thanks in advance!

What you're looking for is a grand touring category tire. You won't find a lot of car mags or internet sources reviewing these - they go for the performance stuff.

However, if you look at Tire Rack's site and drill down in a "tires by size" search, you can pretty easily get to a listing of grand touring summer and grand touring all-season tires. Check out the user reviews and survey statistics. There are many good candidates.

I put this type of tire on my X5 last summer, and I ended up with Continental CrossContact LX20s, which are a pretty new model. They are great - very good handling, quiet and comfortable. If I wanted the same on my e60, I'd probably be looking hard at their PureContact, which looks like the passenger car corollary.

Good luck.

I'm running the 19" with runflat 245/35/19 Dunlop Sport Sp01's and as you on the sport suspension too. I would swap you for 18's with a 40 profile any day of the week! Good luck with the post hope you get an answer soon
