I found out that the upcoming new 3-series will have additional 3d view (and additional pictograms) on the navi screen. (with Navigation Professional only). So we can/could expect some upgrade for 5- and 6-series too.

Does anybody have more details about this ?

TIA

It has already been posted on another thread that from week 9 production (March 05) the E60 will get the bird's eye 3D view on nav pro as part of a package of model upgrades.

The main question for existing nav pro owners now is will the upgrade be made available with a future i-drive software upgrade.

I'd be happy if they just updated the darn NAV DVD... I think I'm still on Feb of 2004...

It seems that it will be possible to upgrade the software to get the 3D view.

I don't remember any rumor about a touch screen. Are you sure you're not thinking of the addition of some "soft keys" on the screen to allow easier access to common functions while in 3d map view?

LCD touch screen does not have as high contrast as current LCD screen. You cannot see anything on the LCD touch screen under the sunlight.

Maybe BMW will provide a retrofit with soft touch keys for 1800 bucks and charge the installation to the warranty like when the 1st navi retrofits for E60's became available.

If I'm correct about the "soft keys", there won't be any difference in LCD screens and there won't be any need to retrofit cars that already have pro nav. It won't become a touch-screen (defeats the whole iDrive, single knob concept). Soft keys are simply "buttons" defined in software that you can "press" using the iDrive controller.

This may be the post that started the rumor...
