I'm in need of some advice. Sure, you're all biased towards the E60, but I'm gonna ask anyway.....

My car is for sale and I expect to sell it any day now (it's in the Classifieds section, btw).

I've been offered a 330d Touring (E91) of 2006. It's specs:
- Titansilver / Black Dakota leather
- M-sport package (M-bumpers, M-steering wheel, Black roof liner, sport seats etc.)
- Privacy glass
- Seat heating
- Logic 7
- Xenon
- Nav Pro
- Blue tooth
- PDC
- Auto transmission
- Only 63,000 km (approx. 39,000 mls)

I really love the looks of the 3 Touring and this one has great options. It's also quite fast, especially if you remap it (it already has the 231 hp engine)

The alternative is a 2005 535d. The downside of this car is that is has a bit more than 140,000 km (approx. 88,000 mls) and is of course one year older. The specs:
- Carbon black / Brown Dakota leather
- M-sport (you all know what it includes)
- All of the options mentioned at the 3 Series
- Sunroof
- High-gloss black satin
- Also Logic 7
- Mirror package (folding + dimming)
- 20 inch M5 replica wheels
- Ipod interface
- It's custom remapped by Carly motors to 700+ Nm and 325 hp (no speed limiter, approx 185 mph top speed)
- Alarm system with GPS tracking

The 3 Series will be a bit cheaper (approx. ? 2,000) and of course a bit cheaper to run. For the 3 Series I don't have to buy other wheels for the winter, because I have kept the 17 inch of my last car (330i E90). For the 535d I definetely have to buy winter tyres (20 inch is far too big for winter)

Also good to mention, is that I personally know the owner of the 535d and I know he has never cut down on maintenance.

Looking forward to your input guys & girls!!

Well, what a quandary indeed!!

My opinion will be worthless, but here goes:

I don't like the E90/91 shape (I had 2 x E46 330d Tourings), and that's why I ended up in an E60.
The E60 is a better car 90% of the time.
If you can live with an E60, rather than an E61 (I assume the 535d is an E60, rather than a Touring), then fine. I would have preferred an E61, but I couldn't justify the price difference, just because I have a dog. He's happy in the passenger side foot well in the E60, but I do miss the space in the back. If the E60 has fold down rear seats, then OK I would live with it.

You may be just starting into problems with the 535d at that mileage, but you have to take that chance with any car.

My advice? Go for the 535d. Have a lot of fun with it for 9 months to a year, and sell it on. You may never go back to a 3-series though!!!

The next problem is, what on earth will you replace a 535d with next year??? Another one.

My adwise.

Find a low mileage 535d, with no engine tuning. That way you can keep it for many years and tune it as YOU like. There are plenty of 535d in Germany. I bought mine 1 month ago, 535d 12/2004 42000km. I also have had 330d and 320d, the 5series is not so dynamic as 3series. But really nice to drive anyway.

Really depends on how big a car you need - either is a super-competent car.
I came from a 3 (e46), and the e60 felt much bigger on the road till I got used to it.

You'll also be able to pickup some cheap 18" alloys from ebay for the winter rubber - highly recommended for the bad weather or you'll need to replace the yellow DSC/DTC light quite often.....

Since you're comfortable with the remap option, I'd go 535d. Just check the oil separator/breather was done recently (helps with the turbo oil seals) Its usually done every 3 oil services.

BTW, a remapped, delimited 535d on 20"s will top-out at approx. a GPS verified 172mph.

Thanks for the tip. Winter rubber is a must..... don't think the 20's will work with snow!

The top speed was on 18's (the 20's are only one year old). I think I'm one of the few that don't like the 20 inch. After the winter, I will sell them and go for a set of 172's (19 inch). So if you're interested......

Hi Mike. Thanks for your input!

I fully agree with you that the E60 is a far better car than a 330d E46. I owned a 2004 330d Touring (204 hp, but remapped of course) and the E60 is a much more modern car. Especially with Dynamic drive & AFS. Compared to the E90/E91, the E60 is more comfortable, but the E90 more nimble.

The current owner of the 535d has bought a 635d E64 (cabrio). Perhaps will that be a nice replacement in future........

go for the 330 touring because of the low mileage. 330's will not disappoint anyone IMO. well, if you need a bigger space then go for the 535.

The 330d looks as a better offer! Go for it.

Hmm, it's getting even more difficult to choose.

Forgot to mention that the 330d is a German car (I know, they all are ), and it still needs a Dutch license plate.

I've also been offered a 530dA M-sport package. It has the following options:

1CA SELECTION COP RELEVANT VEHICLES
2NP M LT/ALY W. DOUBLE SPOKE 135 M W.RUNFLA
205 AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
302 ALARM SYSTEM
337 M SPORTS PACKAGE
339 SATIN CHROME
386 ROOF RAIL
4M3 INTERIOR TRIM.FINI. ALU. CUBE PURE
431 INTERIOR RR VW MIRROR W AUT ANTI-DAZZLE
441 SMOKERS PACKAGE
442 CUPHOLDER
481 SPORT SEATS F DRIVER/FRONT PASSENGER
494 SEAT HEATING F DRIVER/FRONT PASSENGER
5AC AUTOM. HIGH-BEAM HEADLIGHTS CONTROL
502 HEADLIGHT WASHER SYSTEM
508 PARK DISTANCE CONTROL (PDC)
522 XENON LIGHT
534 AUTOMATIC AIR CONDITIONING
540 CRUISE CONTROL
563 LIGHTS PACKAGE
609 NAVIGATION SYSTEM PROFESSIONAL
644 PREP. FOR. MOB. PH. BLUET. INTERF.
676 HIFI LOUDSPEAKER SYSTEM
698 AREA-CODE 2
704 M SPORT SUSPENSION
710 M LEATHER STEERING WHEEL
715 M AERODYNAMICS PACKAGE
775 INDIVIDUAL ROOF-LINING ANTHRACITE
8SA COUNTRY SPEC. RELEASE OF NAVIGATION
8SP COP CONTROL
8S2 CODING OF ALARM SIGNAL
863 EUROPE/DEALER DIRECTORY
868 LANGUAGE VERSION DUTCH
877 DELETION CROSS-OVER OPERATION
886 DUTCH/OWNERS HANDBOOK/SERVICE BOOKLET

This one already has the 231 hp engine with the start/stop button (it's first registration is 11-2006) and comes with a complete set of winter wheels. It has 82,000 km (51,000 mls), but need a service with new front brakes.

It is of course over a year newer than the 535d and the 330d, but is also approx. Eu 5.000,- more expensive. I love the fact that it's a Touring, but the extra investment is a big downside.

Please advice me, guys!!

Decided to go for the 530d Touring. It is just a bit more expensive than the 330d, but it is a 2006 i.o. a 2005.

The 535d was incredible and really almost like a new car. Not a scratch or a dent on it..... but it has too much km on the meter for me.

I'll post photo's of the new Touring as soon as I get the car! Does anyone have advise for the first mod's? IMO it sits a bit too high, although it has sport suspension. Perhaps the first mod.....
