32.6 mpg - can this be right

08 528i which is about 2 months old. I took my first long trip yesterday. Granted, I reset the mpg just before getting on the (Pa) Turnpike because I wanted to see true highway mpg. I never thought it would be this high - I'm really impressed especially since I also have an 06 M35x in which my max highway mpg ranges about 23-25. Can this really be a true reading (I know - if I want a REAL reading I should do the math based on gallons used). Anyway, just curious what others think.

Yup! It sure can be. While you really should do your own calculation based upon a fillup and traveled miles, you can get those numbers with a steady speed (around 70) and no real hilly areas.
I've got a 2006 530xi and easily achieve 31 mpg on trips of lengthy highway driving averaging around 70-75 mph.

The computer reading is wrong but you're definitely getting somewhere around 30 mpg. The n52 engine is a nice piece of engineering.

Its right the computer is roughly 2 mpg too happy from my calculations though. I've gotten 31 mpg for highway driving after resetting the ave. fuel consumption thing on the highway. This is off a 545 on LA freeways and over a stretch of 30 miles on 5 different freeways. I even have pics to show for it, I'll post them up later if I remember to.

I get that and better at times. These cars are very aerodynamic and get great mileage on flat highways. Just park next to those cars that claim to get mid 30's gas mileage and their rooflines are higher than a bimmer and their ground clearance is higher, thus more drag. The engineers at BMW are so far advanced compared to other companies. This is still by far the best all around car I have ever owned or driven.

I've got the computer to read 37 mpg before, granted the computer is probably a little off and I may have been driving with a bit of a tail wind but thats still pretty good.
