we've seen 22s on an e60 so it is doable. we usually recommend 19-20" wheels, depending on the wheel style. 21" at the most.

They look like s#!t.

Those should be made illegal on the streets. I bet they have no stopping power.

Correct, that is another factor that most fools don't consider: If you go above 20" rims on almost all cars you have to upgrade the braking system as well or the car WILL NOT STOP in emergency situations. You have effectively diminished the braking performance of the car and you will need new brake pads about once a month.

I've always thought anything bigger than 20 would look stupid. Then I saw these, the only non-oem rims I've ever liked (I actually saw this in person at the Gumball 3k rally!):

What hit me about these wheels were that they were 21's, but still suited very the car very very well.

You'll most likely have to roll the fenders to make it fit.
Tire sizes and whether it clears the suspension will all depend on wheel width and offset.
