Well I actually got a year and a half out of my 3rd set of run flat tires. Ironically enough I stopped by the dealership on Saturday to look at an X5 and while showing the salesman my car was pointing out that the only issue I have had was the dam run flat tires. Low and behold we look down and my front passenger side tire is showing threads. We felt the tire and the entire inside wall had separated from the tread. So the car is at the dealership as I could not even drive it home. Looking like at a minimum a 3rd set of front tires, another alleignment and they will check the camber again. The car only has 20K on it and its driven about 3000 miles a year if that. The first set they gave me for free but at what these tires cost each this is rediculous. Guess that X5 is looking better and better.

something is wrong if you are on 3rd set of tires on a car with 20K miles...

has the dealer identified the root cause of the issue? You are just expected to put new tires every year? You are ok with that?

Clearly there are major issues with either the camber or tracking of your wheels, get these checked before splashing out on the X5.

Did you buy the car used and if so, did you run a Carfax on it? At best it sounds like a severe alignment problem, at worst it was in an accident and the front end was improperly repaired. In any case, get the alignment checked and, if possible, corrected.

Car was checked and car faxed before purchase. Dealer again said they would check alignment and camber but gave me the same old "these cars go through tires" line. I said every 3000 miles cause that's what I got out of these fronts?

Once you get it figured out you need to ditch the runflats. Good luck

Whats your driving style? No way you should be shredding tires like that short of driving VERY aggressively or having an alignment/camber issue.

As for ditching the run flats, I just did and I love the Conti DWS's but I wouldn't say you HAVE TO... they have their benefits too. It is a much stiffer feeling ride. If you have a spare I would say you dont need to spend $400 per tire on runflats when you can get a great set of ultra performance treads the price of 2 run flats.

I now that BMW had an SIB on this (got my 545 runflats replaced for free at 9k miles) I had excessive ware on my first set, brought the car in, complained and I got a new set of tires, and I believe they adjusted the camber. The next set lasted much longer. It has been a long time since i had looked into this so I cannot help with the SIB

While UHP RFT's wear faster than some tires, I suspect a through investigation will yield that there are other causes contributing to the OP's tire wear issues.

The proof will be when (or if) the RFTs are replaced with conventional tires and tire wear doesn't improve.
