Last year the 6 cylinder engines were upgraded in March production for the US. One year is not a trend, but I would think there aren't that many V8 engine production lines to run very many variations.
Look how many four- and six-cylinder variants there are though.

There's only one line of v8 for the US at a time. If the x6 is launching in Sept. 08, the TT v8 will come in March 09 5 series or Sept. 09 for F10. Just move everything up or down 6 months.

When does the new 7 come out? Won't it certainly get this new 4.4L V-8 twin-turbo too?

It's interesting to speculate about getting this new engine in the E60 ... because it sure would be fun! But BMW didn't make that move last time when the E65 7 series came out with the then-new 4.4L - while the E39 540i continued with its old engine.

However, the competition is stronger this time. And why would BMW continue to manufacture this obscure 4.8L V-8 that it only installs in a few thousand 550s / 650s each year?, when a perfectly good alternative is available?

Either way ... we are only about 27 months away from the F10.

It takes about 6 months to shut down the old line. When the new 7 comes out, it will have the tt v8. Six months later, the tt v8 will appear in the 5 er regardless of the f10 release date.

The December 24 edition of Autoweek magazine had a short article on the X6. The article states: "The top engine is a new twin-turbocharged V8 with direct injection that produces 400 HP and 450 lb-ft of torque. Watch for this engine in future BMW high-performance M3 and M5 models.

I doubt that statement is correct. Even though a 4.4TT has plenty of potential (re the Alpina B7 wit a 500hp 4.4TT), I'd bet money the 4.4TT is going in the standard models. The M5 would never be downgraded, geesh. Although it could apear in the M3, as a 450-500hp version. I still doubt that due to the ///M division going with multiple throttle bodies, not Valvetronic.
